Pastor Mark Brand

Born in Paducah, Kentucky in 1960, Mark was raised by ministry parents in Illinois and Peru, South America. This early exposure to a mix of ethnic identities sowed seeds into his heart which resulted in his life-long appreciation for cultural diversity and racial reconciliation. A fourth generation pastor, Mark gave his heart to Jesus and sensed a clear call to preach at an early age, but only embraced his life assignment after a period of agnosticism as a young adult when God spoke to his heart in a clearly supernatural way. He subsequently forsook his intended career in law and politics and was formally ordained into the Christian ministry in 1983. After graduating from Bible school, Mark served as an itinerant evangelist, Bible school instructor, and career overseas missionary in partnership with Teresa, his best friend and wife of more than thirty years. They lived for several years in Paris, France where they helped lead a French-language congregation and trained spiritual leaders throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. They relocated to Dallas in 2003 when Mark was called to be the Senior Pastor of what would later become Antioch Church. During their early years in Texas, Mark and Teresa hosted over 300 episodes of their Word and Spirit live television broadcast. In 2011, the congregation embraced Mark’s vision to relocate from the suburbs into the city’s downtown urban core. Antioch has transitioned from a prosperous, overwhelming white constituency to a fully multi-ethnic, socio-economically diverse family of faith committed to following the missionary model of the church at Antioch in the New Testament. After an amazing journey of faith, God gave them an entire city block for their new campus in the West End Historic District located directly on the city’s primary transit nexus. Seen by many emerging leaders as a spiritual father, Mark is often asked to serve them as a mentor. His greatest earthly joy is Teresa and their two children, who were born to them as answers to prayer following thirteen years of infertility.
