LIVE PERFORMANCE PT 1.
For the past year during my sets I combine a series of 5-8 poems in one 10-12 minute span. No breaks. They all flow seamlessly into each other. I’m always thinking of ways to expand my craft and be unique.
1. Grabs & keeps audiences’ attention
2. Breath control, the stamina it takes to deliver, emote, & connect for nearly 12 minutes straight is a physical SKILL, in heels!!
3. You’re giving previews to poems and allowing audience to WANT to purchase merch
4. My cadence switches every 2-3 minutes so it’s not boring.
5. It sets me up to continue the rest of my set with 2-3 FULL poems depending on how the audience responds to in the first half.
Keep a catalogue of 18-25 poems stored in your memory in order to switch around between transitions.
I’ve now added 3 new poems to the rotation.
