Excellent experience with friendly front desk staff and exam room folks. Then Dr. Slaughter was pleasant and sincerely interested in my issue, and was most reassuring in his diagnosis.

Here's an article written by Vernon Hicks about a medal ceremony in London presided over by King George VI ...................................................................................................................................…King, left face, salute and advance one pace, which brought him within easy reaching distance, To the
King’s left were two tables just littered with shining medals—a couple of bushels of them or more. They
were arranged by some chap in civilian clothes. As the name was called, he picked out the right medal, placed
it on a cushion, held by a third officer, who in turn passed it so that the King could pick it up easily and then pin
over the left suspender buckle, but on the tunic. This done the invested one would have his hand shaken, do a
one pace to the rear, salute, right face and march off with much hand clapping, especially those who got the
Victoria Crosses.

As to the King, he was dressed in the regulation uniform of a British Army general. No gold and glitter, or
plastered with medals. He is turning decidedly gray and is much better-looking than his pictures show him to be
fair, is very expressive and often he had a merry twinkle in his eye as he would chat with the man before him.
What impressed me was the informal way he carried on—no blare of bugles and that business. He looked a
very human, likable fellow and was most democratic through it all.

After it was all over and the crowd had left he sent word he would be pleased to meet the United States officers
present—an unheard of thing, it appears. We were taken into the palace of a large anteroom and were
announced by name. He chatted for a few minutes and said he hoped we would find our stay in England pleasant;
he said he was glad to see us and shook each by the hand. The colonel let us know he had never done such before.
I know we all felt that way without prompting.
