The most rewarding part of making a custom leather piece is the delightful reaction of the person who ordered it accompanied by words of appreciation. I was thrilled to get this review of a custom portfolio I made. It featured hops and wheat, in the spirit of those who brew beer. On the back I etched Father’s Day Messages from two young sons. It was a great idea requested by my customer.

Eleven years ago we had added new workbenches to the leather shop and began organizing our tools and supplies. It has been a delightful place to work side by side and let the creative juices flow.
I held a garage sale over the weekend to remove the clutter from the shop. Now I’ll focus on spiffing it up and organizing the many resources that we selected, from equipment and tools to stains and paints. Over the years we spent many happy, productive hours in the shop and now, it is time for me to get it back in shape and start creating once more. Ronnie will still be at my side coaching me through my memories of his guidance and encouragement.
I love making things out of leather. By hand. New projects will be coming soon and his influence will always be a part of my new creations.

Yes, we have used leather for generations. I think that is one of the reasons it is so important to preserve the history and techniques that have emerged over the years. Not only that, it can be a wonderful hobby with the dual advantage of serving as therapy. Of course, we cannot overlook the value of leather in commerce and product development—all the way from saddles to car seats and furniture making. Such a versatile and useful material!

Hi everybody! This afternoon I’m starting a new project for my Etsy shop. This is a three strand leather braid made of turquoise kangaroo lace. I’ll be using the finished braid to make a custom bracelet. As you can see, it keeps my hands busy! But what better way could you spend a cold and windy winter afternoon? I love making things out of Leather. By hand.

Here is the finished shave kit ready that was shipped to Wyoming this week. Such a good feeling to see it all come together.
Here I am getting ready to sew the body of the Shavekit. This leather case is made from a pattern by Don Gonzales and it has been one of our best sellers. As I mentioned in my last post, this project is special because the floral panel was done by Ronnie awhile back when he was still able to enjoy working in the leather shop. We love making things out of leather. By hand.
