Happy Birthday Colonel Selig! On March 14 in 1864 Selig Polyscope founder William Nicholas Selig was born to Joseph Franz and Antonia Selig in Chicago, Ill. This photo comes from our friend and Selig family member Jeff Look. In this photo the Colonel is second from the right and it was taken in the 1920's. This morning, the Library of Congress announced the 2025 additions to the National Film Registry—and we’re thrilled to share that Selig Polyscope’s THE TRAMP AND THE DOG (1896) has been officially selected.
This landmark early film will now be preserved and protected forever by the Library of Congress. You can read all about this historic honor in our post below, along with the full list of films added to the Registry this year.
