Sunset Springs Ranch

Our DEI program at Sunset Springs Ranch is looking like a success. The only consideration is, "Are you qualified and have the ability to do the job, exceptionally well?"

Ferdinand is on Nanny duty this morning and we are proud of him stepping up in a role generally held by the Cows. Leading by example.

I love the wonder and awe of our pastures. This week's loves.

Spring is a special time at the ranch. It is a reminder God's plan is always in the works. If you are planning your upcoming Easter or Passover meal, don't forget Lamb as a special treat for the main course. Sunset Springs Ranch will be at the Nacogdoches Farmers Market this Saturday, March 14th, with Lamb and Eggs.

Our sweet little Ewe Lamb, has a name - Annie. Thank you to all of our Sunset Springs Ranch friends and followers for helping us name her.
Don't tell Mike, but last night, she was hopping around on the living room furniture while I was cooking dinner. Then I found the toilet paper unrolled all over the bathroom. She is officially a toddler. I'll have to keep my camera ready going forward to capture her antics, so I can share them.

This little girl needs voting on her most popular name submissions.

It is so hard to get a good picture of her. The first one is after i weighed her in at 11 lbs (6 lbs growth in 10 days) this morning. The other two were from last night. I picked her up from spending the day with the other sheep. ♥️. She nuzzled her head against my neck, which is a bonding action they do with their mothers...meaning i feel safe again.

Its time to play "Name That Lamb". You, the Sunset Springs Ranch friends rallied to help us come up with Lambo- son of Rambo, for last year's orphaned lamb.

Now we have a precious little girl lamb, who's momma pushed her away in favor of this one's twin. What should we name her?

I've shared with many our mobile coop design, with side wings and an expanded metal floor. This is what it looks like when winterized. The side wings are screwed down, and the floor is covered with a 20 mil tarp on the back 12 ft, barn mats on the front 4 ft and deep litter method mostly on the back 12 ft. We do not screw down the sides until we have consistent nights of less than 35 degrees for 4+ hours.

We do have to open and close the human size door every day because the Tom's Turkeys are too big for the chicken size auto door. We have a turkey size auto door on the breeding coop. We will remodel this coop when it is consistently warmer, for this next year of a mixed flock and add a new Turkey size door.

Tom 1 is very flirty with everyone and everything. He definitely identifies as all Turkey!
