For this exact reason is why I teach to run shoulder to shoulder off the screener, defender can't get through and it avoids any movement from the screener trying to find the defender as well as it helps the runner make the best decision per the defense. Never leave any space between you and your screener. Always move with intention.

There’s definitely a chance the refs were actively watching for anything illegal from UConn that could end their possession. Believe me, I wish we would’ve see this game decided by the players and not whether or not the refs would catch a call. But if UConn had gotten away with—let’s face it—a kind of blatant illegal pick where the screener threw out her elbows and was clearly sliding her hips into someone, we would be complaining about it too if Paige hit the shot
