On March 19, 2020, J Balvin dropped his fifth solo studio album, Colores (Colors), one day before its official release was scheduled. In an interview with Billboard, the artist explained the early release date by saying he “felt the world needed it” and that he “wanted to release it from the heart.” J Balvin wishes that this album brings hope and joy to people in quarantine, and serves as a way to cope with isolation.

We often hear about Bad Bunny or Annuel AA, but we must remember that they are white Latinx artists. On top of the fact that reggaeton has its roots in Black culture, we must actively support and listen to Black and Afro-Latinx artists making reggaeton! An artist folx should listen to is Sech. Sech is a Panamanian artist. He is the youngest of 4 sons. His brother did not want to teach him how to play the drums, so Sech - Carlos Isaias Morales Williams - taught himself how to play the drums. He then taught himself how to play the piano, guitar, bass, and voice control. As he entered the music industry, his style developed around three genres: R&B, dancehall and reggaeton.

Myke Towers - Michael Torres - is a Puerto Rican artist that is breaking the charts. Before 2017, he was known as Mike Towers. He decided to change the “i” to a “y” to reflect the musical movement he is a part of - Young Kingz. He is very shy but very determined. He heard numerous “no’s,” but that did not stop him. One of his inspirations is Jay Z. He also draws from his lived experiences. He has now released his second album Easy Money Baby. This album came after 4 years of his first album.
