It was bad news for us...
We'd let go of our lease, packed up everything and left most of it behind with friends who promised it would still be there when we had gotten settled, invested almost everything we had in pursuing my husband's dream job.
Literally a week later, when we'd spent the last of our cash extending our motel stay one more week just the night before, he was told, "This just isn't going to work."
And like that, he had no job. If not for my online business, we would have been left with nothing. No food to eat, no place to stay after the week was over, and no friends in that town or relatives to lean on yet.
Fortunately, a client of mine paid his invoice and we were able to head home to Texas where we'd both grown up and get resettled.
There have been numerous times in our life that my online business saved us...but I didn't always have one.
I know what it's like to find a job suddenly over and no paycheck coming and no help or hope on the horizon.

The Best Problems Caused You The Most Pain
It was a hot August in 1999. I was working at home while my son played in the living room and my husband opened the door, startling me. He was home early and the look on his face told me that he was not home for a good reason.
"I got fired." That was all he said before heading to our bedroom and closing the door.
Rent was due soon, and his last paycheck wasn't going to cover that and everything we needed to survive to the end of the month. My work-from-home assignment was not going to bring in enough, either.
It had taken my husband over a year and a half to get himself that job, and he'd lost it in three months. A deadly cocktail of depression mixed with self-sabotage had once again taken its toll.
I was starting to lose hope that we would ever have a better future, that things would ever improve, that the pain and the heartache and the struggle that was our daily existence would ever be transformed into something better.
I thought about all the people I knew, and I could find no hope in their stories, either. Those who had once had success had been laid low by disease and medical problems. I was surrounded by people who struggled daily just like I did and they were older than I was.
I thought, "If this is all my future holds - what's the point of living? If success can't solve the problems or make the pain go away, what's the point of fighting so hard for it?"
The thought of su***de entered my mind. It promised a quick end to the pain, to the struggle, to the heartache. I wondered just how many pills I would have to take before I could end it all.
And then I saw my son. I couldn't leave him behind to face this without me. Another thought. Why leave him in this world at all? If I didn't want to face the pain and the heartache and the struggle, why force him to?
It was that thought that shook me out of the pit of despair. How could I have even thought such a thing? To take my own child's life? That was insanity.
Nobody died that day, thank goodness, but I know that right now, every day, there are people who fall into that same pit of despair and they need a message of hope, a promise that the pain can provide purpose and the struggles are there to strengthen the spiritual muscles so that the growth that they need to undergo in order to achieve what they want to accomplish can take place.
Poverty caused me so much pain until I realized that it existed to be a teacher and a mentor, not an enemy. I made it my ally in my fight for self-improvement. The poverty that nearly crushed the life out of me became my strongest motivator.
Today, I do the work I do so that I can break through to people who might be sitting at their own kitchen tables wondering just how many pills it takes to end it all and offer them real hope and a proven system they can use to break through to the life they want to achieve.
It's no fairy tale and it's not sugar-coated. It's going to take work to get there, but it will work if action is taken.
The things that cause the most pain yesterday lead to the path walked today The things done to allowed you to move past those moments of pain and dark despair are what you have to offer the people around you.
Use those. Leverage them. Don't let your light remain hidden. Turn those problems into profits NOT for your own pride and vanity but so that those people who are lacking in hope and are feeling despair can hear your story and KNOW that there is something greater waiting up ahead for them.
When you turn your problems into profits, you give them a reason to believe that the pain is not purposeless but is part of the transformation process required for them to become the person they need to be in order to grow where they want to go.
You can be someone's hope. You can be someone's reason to keep going and keep living and keep trying to figure it out. But you first need to act.

How I went from writing The Poverty Diaries in 2014 to Turning Problems Into Profits in 2019...without a degree, without certifications or fancy titles, on a $0 marketing budget and with no previous business successes to my name
..all with just ONE solution to a common problem 80-90% of Americans share...
I was the least likely person to claim a business success you can imagine. I grew up in poverty. We were often so poor my mother couldn't afford to get me a haircut, so kids would make fun of the way my hair always hung in my face.
As an adult, I wondered if I would ever escape poverty. Every business I tried to start failed. At work, I was never selected for positions in management. I'd never held a role more important than assistant at any of the jobs where I'd worked.
But over the course of 15 years, I figured out how to write a book. In fact, I'd gotten so good at writing books that I took some advice I got from a mentor and wrote a book called How To Write an eBook in 40 Days (or less!). That book got published on Amazon in 2013.
Once I published it, I started a group for writers and I started becoming known in the writing community. However, I wasn't making any money. I wasn't even selling many copies of my books. I was frustrated and felt like a failure.
The book I published got good reviews for the first few months, but then came that 1-star reviewer who tore my work to pieces. I was crushed. She didn't know it, but that review would set me on the path that would eventually lead me to writing the life of my dreams.
I did not, at the time, realize just how many people wanted to write a book but didn't know how to get started. They were letting their fears hold them back. Fear that they didn't have anything worth saying in them. Fear that nobody would listen to what they had to say. Fear that they had to be somebody important before they could write a book.
The truth is 80-90% of Americans believe they have a book in them but fewer than 3% of them will ever sit down to write it. They let fear steal their dreams. Like Prince, they die with their book unwritten, their voice forever silenced, the wisdom that they might have shared with the world buried in the same grave they now fill.
But because of that 1-star reviewer, I went on to develop a universal writing system that would work for any kind of writer, no matter what kind of book they were trying to write or how little experience writing they might have.
That system is what launched my business. It is what got me invited to put on retreats and to speak on stages in Las Vegas, London, and Dallas. It is what got me invited to be an editor of several different magazines and allowed me to meet people from all walks of life.
It is that experience, too, that taught me I wasn't the only one with something of value to offer people. Everyone I've ever met has some life experience and wisdom to offer others. They have problems they've solved that they could be turning into profits...but they don't know how.
Just as I once solved the problem of writing books and used that to help others solve their problem, I set out to write a book that would show others how to turn any problem into a profitable business. I wanted them to be able to access the same strategies I'd learned that helped me
..find new clients and gain their trust and respect quickly
..walk into a room of people with more power, money, and fame than I had a virtual unknown and walk out with those same people wanting to know more
..expand my network and grow my tribe organically without spending a ton of money on Facebook ads
..leverage my relationships to gain opportunities I might never have been offered otherwise...
And more.
The information contained in that book is worth a fortune. I could easily justify charging thousands for the content it contains.
But I want to reach as many people as possible. I want to help at least 1 million people who are struggling financially with problems that feel overwhelming and impossible to solve get the tools they need to turn yesterday's problems into money making enterprises that will help them solve today's problems.

Why not free? I tried that. You know what happened?
I actually invested $60 of my own money advertising that free book and trying to get it into the hands of as many people as possible. I knew it could help them if they just read it.
People didn't download it and they didn't read it.
I learned a valuable lesson out of that: Nobody values what they can get too easily or too cheaply.
They believe the lie that you get what you pay for and so they assume that if it's free or if it's cheap, it's because it's not worth anything.
So, this time, I am going to charge for the content. I know what it's like to be in a position where $7 is a lot of money. That is why I am offering a $7 ebook.
I don't want to deny people the ability to get the help they need just because they may not have a lot of money to spend. But I figure if they had to scrape for the $7 to pay for it, maybe they'll invest the time to read it and actually benefit from it.
