GOOGLE BUSINESS PROFILE REVIEW EXTORTION:

I had this happen to one of my clients a few days ago. Someone sent them a message claiming a competitor paid them to leave multiple 1 star Google reviews, and that for $100 they would change them to 5 star reviews.

This type of scam is becoming more common. It is review extortion, and if it happens to you the best approach is to avoid replying completely.

If they do end up posting negative reviews to your Google profile, here is what to do instead:

Then submit the official extortion report form:

In my client’s case, they ignored the messages. A few days later ten fake 1 star reviews were posted to their profile. They followed Google’s steps and submitted the extortion report. Within 24 hours the bogus reviews were removed.

Avoid these scams and never pay for positive reviews. It can put your Google Business Profile at risk of suspension.
