I appreciate Forward Controls Design decision to go 17-4 SS with nitride. The hardness and corrosion resistance is what I'm looking for in defensive use configurations. FCD uses Trijicon's drawings to ensure spec as intended by Trijicon.

It's no wonder why Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics considers FCD's optic plates as the "gold standard". If FCD has a plate available for my application, I'll use it.

I have the Gen 6 varieties and will be covering those later. Currently, RMR and ACRO are available with the DPP pattern coming out soon.

LMK if you have any questions or share your own experiences.

Trijicon, Inc. MRO HD
Reticle flickering issue identified for circle dot settings 3-6 (so far) on my buddy's optic.

It's common enough to have multiple accounts reported on the interwebs. Sharing as PSA.

It's not the battery as I've swapped between multiple Duracell and Energizer from different packs. Could be the contacts or the brain.

Either way, Trijicon's warranty is solid. RMA submitted and pending response.

If you've experienced this, lmk what you experienced and outcome.

The ARIC and RAP experiment continues.

I was unable to get my 13.9 Mid to function 100% with either the C or C- variant. has the C variant that functioned 100% with 12.5 Car, so I opined that Carbine gas might be the way to go.

The result was a spare parts bin upper build using a Centurion Arms 12.5 Car barrel w/ FSB. I opted to use their legacy CMR cutout handguard and RRA riser for a unique "vibe" and I think it turned out eye-pleasing with the EXPS3-1. The dot only config is growing on me.

The optic centerline is at 3.25" and close to a 1.7" riser config. I cannot use the irons without removing the optic, so I might swap to the XPS variant or a different optic setup later if I care enough.

Also, shout out to and for the superb 3P15 Plan B muzzle device. It's one of my favorites.

Check out RD's https://silencerresource.com/ for solid MD/Suppressor data.

Range Report:
Carbine gas did the job and the C- variant was functioning unsuppressed. I did try a few rounds suppressed (standard pressure) but it was definitely gassy and punchy as expected. I have the C variant in currently and will field that next time out to confirm function.

Note that the C and C- variants are not intended to be used suppressed, so I've also reached out to the ARIC engineer to request the M variant as it has additional vents to counter the increased gas.

I'm glad that I got this working and can move on to further experimentation like maybe 300 BO and low pressure cans.

I want this to be successful because this setup is such a vibe paired with the AX556/ADAC lower.

That is all for now. Deuces.

M1X completed
(26X, Baby Roland Special)

The M1X frame is pre-installed with the Gen 4/5 mag release and slide lock lever. It is Gen 3-5 parts compatible and up to the end user to complete the rest. Note that if you're opting for Gen 5, ensure that your slide is cut for the ambi slide stop.

I opted to use Gen 3 slide, internals, and a few upgrades:
- Timney Enhanced Feel Shoe
- KKM barrel and comp
- Vickers/TangoDown Gen 4/5 extended mag release
- Trijicon SRO
- ISMI RSA w/ 17 # spring

The frame is utilizes the same dustcover rail as the slim line series (43X/48), so I applied the Streamlight TLR7-Sub. Holsters are available at on the G***kStore site.

Additional frame colors have been released since mine was acquired (1st run version), so options for everyone.

I haven't decided if I'll opt for a magwell (Gen 5 compatible) or use the GS brass plug. I might use the Booth Grip Anchor like on my 19 and 48 for ergos. Might also swap to the PMM micro comp to reduce footprint further and leave this upper combo on the 26XX project.

Anyways, LMK if you have questions. Deuces.

Don't bridge your optics across your upper and handguard.

Topic came up and I realized that many don't understand the why, so here we are.

It is incredibly difficult to control how components will mate after install even if they're from the same OEM. Every part has acceptable tolerance variances and it is more work than necessary to ensure that the components are on the same plane. Tolerance stacking can also happen. Nevermind that if your handguard gets loose or impacted.

It is best to use a one-piece extended rail type accessory or a monolithic type receiver if you need the space.

If you have questions or wish to share your experiences, comment away.

The Venom Enclosed is a solid, affordable option for anyone that wants a "no frills" enclosed RDS but it has a taller deck height than its Defender cousin, so I questioned if it would affect the use of aftermarket plates. The Defender comes with an MOS specific plate (IMO is very good as is and an upgrade isn't necessary) but the Venom Enclosed does not.

The DPP/EFLX MOS plate was used as the sample. I like FCD because I know they use drawings from the OEMs vs reverse engineering, which gives me confidence that it very likely isn't the plate if something goes wrong. Also, I've known and worked with Roger for years and understand how he thinks. Thank you for this demo unit, Roger.

FCD had already addressed the Defender and XL series in their product description and I've confirmed that the instructions carry over to the Venom Enclosed. Use the Vortex supplied M4x0.7 9.8mm screws and they will be recessed-flush to the plate (see photos 3 & 4). The 11mm screws are too long in this example and will protrude past the plate causing damage since the screws don't pass through into the slide. Adjust according to your specific platform.

The combo sits perfect on the RXM experiment. I didn't like how the OEM RXM slide felt, so I applied a G***k 17 Gen 3 slide using the adapter. Shout out to for the initial idea. It is basically a 17 Gen 6 "the long way" given the single spring 19 RSA.

Current impressions:
- I should've had front serrations applied when doing the MOS race cut but tape is fine for now.
- Would benefit from extended mag release and slide stop
- I want more grip weight

That is all. Thanks for reading. Deuces.

DSA Para FAL 18"
Yet another project to calm the tisms. 🤣

I have a 21" Imbel kit built on an older, forged DSA receiver (allegedly LMT produced) and opted to leave it in "classic" config, so I hunted down a Para to "modernize" to some degree.

This is a factory DSA with all USA parts. I can feel the build quality differences from the Imbel but beggars can't be choosers.

I've already stripped the top cover components just from tearing down the unit. They really should've used steel instead of aluminum hardware. The handguard is meh and will probably bend (I should find the VLTOR one). LOP between Para and classic are about the same.

I do appreciate the extended controls though, albeit the springs/detents feel a little light on the bolt release and safety.

I've upgraded to DSA's metric folding charging handle (Photo 3) as the original k**b dug into my gut when slung.

I also tried the Belgian combo MD (similar to the one on the 21"), which mounts over the barrel and gives the illusion that the barrel is shorter but timing required machining the MD and I didn't want to deal with that, so I opted for the 9/16x24LH to 5/8x24RH adapter, which also mounts over the barrel. SF Warcomp was used as this caliber needs some form of compensation but does put the OAL closer to the 21".

No plans to can at this time but I do have the adjustable piston and can tune if I feel like it in the future. has examples of his suppressed, so check his page if you're interested.

This will evolve as I get annoyed by things during use. The Trijicon RX01 still sucks.

That is all. Deuces.
