Happy Mother’s Day from Forest Forward!
Today, our Director of Development, Trisha Watson, is honoring her mother, Liz Watson, whose life was filled with music, movement, joy, and service to others.
Some of Trisha’s fondest memories are playing piano duets together and family singalongs while her mother played the ukulele or banjo. A professor of Physical Education at UMKC, Liz specialized in helping educators work with children and adults with disabilities and mobility challenges. She also coached women’s basketball, taught sports ranging from racquetball to archery, and led a summer program that gave adults with disabilities the opportunity to experience arts, sports, and community in meaningful ways.
At home, life with Liz was just as lively. Summer evenings often ended with backyard badminton matches, and family road trips to Florida packed five kids into a tiny trailer for unforgettable adventures.
“There was never a dull moment with Liz Watson!”
Today, we celebrate mothers and mother figures like Liz whose love, energy, and impact continue to shape generations. Happy Mother’s Day to all who nurture, inspire, and build community every day.
Today, we celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, aunties, mother figures, and caregivers who shape our communities with love, strength, and wisdom. Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Forest Forward.
Check out this special video from our Director of Community Engagement, LaSheryl Walker, as she shares one of her fondest memories of her mother and reflects on the impact that love and guidance can have across generations.
Wishing everyone a beautiful day filled with love, reflection, and celebration.

The Forest Theater, 1949. Check out a few photos from back in the day!
The Forest Theater has long been a cultural cornerstone in South Dallas. It has been a space where community, creativity, and connection came to life.
We are proud to be part of restoring its legacy and reimagining what it can be for the next generation.
We had an incredible time celebrating our South Dallas champions at the Dallas ISD Championship Parade last weekend!
From the energy in Victory Park to the pride felt across the city, it was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when talent, discipline, and community come together.
Congratulations to Madison, Lincoln, Kimball, and Carter on their state titles. We’re proud to celebrate alongside you!
Moments like these reflect the strength, excellence, and future of our community.
We’re proud to share that the Forest Theater was named Best Rehab/Renovation Project at the Dallas Business Journal BRED Awards 🎉
This honor reflects the hard work and heart behind bringing this historic space back to life.
Shout out to fellow nominees Collin Creek and Sewell Lexus of Fort Worth Renovation 👏🏽
Grateful for this moment to celebrate the journey so far.
We can’t wait for you to experience the Forest Theater. Stay tuned!
