**Shakespeare in the Park Designs**

This weekend, I went over to Centennial Park and saw The Nashville Shakespeare Festival's production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and snapped a few pics of my work while I was there. Y’all. This show is wonderful and SO funny. Everyone involved did an outstanding job, and it was a blast.

Don’t miss your chance to go see the play, eat some kettle corn (s/o to Moose Head Kettle Corn, that stuff is addicting), buy a shirt (shameless plug), and have an all-around great night out!

So happy to have been a part of this, and so excited to see my work at Broadway and West End!

*Art-Deco Inspired Layout Design for Beacon Center of Tennessee*
A large portion of my work is actually layout design, but I’m often afraid to share it because I feel like it doesn’t “show” as well as other kinds of design. I’m particularly proud of this one, though, because of a sudden stroke of inspiration that hit about halfway through designing.

This document was looking *so* boring, but then I thought about the nature of film, and its roots in the aesthetics of art deco & theatre design. So immediately, I began searching for old film stills and drawing inspiration from the lines, shapes, and drama of them. I took a complete 180 and re-designed the book, and infused the era of the film age into it. I looked back and was actually proud of the product I made, and as an artist, there is no better feeling.

Self-doubt thrives in isolation.
When you work from home, you have no one around you to push you, to stretch you. When I was working on this poster for , my brainstorming came up dry. It seemed every idea I came up with I told myself I “couldn’t execute”.
I ended up going to a friend of mine for help and inspiration, and she came up with a wonderful idea that I shot down immediately because I thought I “couldn’t execute it”. There was too much illustration involved, and illustration scares me. She then told me three words: JUST. TRY. IT. With a million doubts in my head, I did what she said. Several bajillion hours later, I am ecstatic at the result! But if I had not sought out that community, I wouldn’t have done it.
Community kills self-deprecation.
