Be Patient

Patience is a person's ability to wait something out or endure something tedious, without getting riled up. When we are going through difficult times it can be extremely hard to be patient, in fact, it can sometimes seem impossible. You may be going through a difficult time right now and you are struggling to be patient.

Let’s take encouragement today. It says in Romans 12:12 "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer". When we are hurting or struggling, we can not see the light and the end of the tunnel. We may feel like things will never change and maybe God has forgotten about us. This is not true, for He has said "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5). In your difficult times, he wants you to be patient understanding that He is able to turn things around for you. It is easy to blame God in troubles and much harder to trust him but today He wants you to take that brave step of being patient and trusting Him.

Job was a man who found great favor in the eyes of God and was blessed abundantly. When Satan caused his livestock, servants, and children to die Job was deeply hurt. He was furthermore afflicted with painful sores from the crown of his head to the soles of his feet. Through all this suffering Job knew that God is good and he remained faithful and patient.

The Bible tells us "The LORD blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the former part." Job 42:12. Likewise, Abraham became a father of a great nation after patiently waiting for God to bless him.

It is difficult to be patient during a time of tribulation but let’s be assured that this is a rewarding fruit of the Spirit. God does not slumber nor sleep and is always watching over his loved ones. There is something beautiful waiting at the end of your patience, trust the Lord and let him bless you today.

Anyone else out there WAITING for God to do something?

During waiting seasons, it’s tempting to torment ourselves with questions we can’t answer: Why? Why me? How long? Instead, let’s focus on the questions we can answer, the answers we can choose: How will I wait? and Who will I become along the way?

Choosing how to wait and who to become starts with identifying Satan’s traps so we can avoid them. Perhaps these pitfalls will sound familiar:

Bitterness: I can’t believe this is happening to me.

Doubt: Does God love me? Does He even know I exist?

Manipulation: If God won’t fix my problems, then I will. My plan may not be godly, but. . .

When we go into spiritual battle, we need to know where we require special protection—which parts of our spiritual armor have vulnerabilities (Ephesians 6:10–20). Satan loves to exploit our weaknesses, but God can turn weakness into strength (Hebrews 11:34).

Let’s guard against the pitfalls and look to the future with hope. We may be sad and struggling now, but God can bring back joy in the end. He can bring back joy after we have doubted. He can bring back joy after we have made mistakes, even the kind with lasting consequences (Psalm 51:12).

Waiting seasons aren’t fun, but they provide opportunities. Through waiting, perseverance can gradually “finish” its never-ending work in us (James 1:2–4). As waiting does its thing, and God does His, we get the chance to become our best selves, the people God designed us to be.

Replacing Negative Thoughts

These three simple steps have been instrumental in my life as I’ve learned that they truly do work, and I know they can be instrumental in yours too.

1) Notice negative thoughts
Ask God to expose each negative thought you have. You take authority over your thoughts when you notice the ones you’ve allowed and begin to recognize the thinking patterns that have developed in your mind over time. Noticing and capturing the thoughts that have kept you bound is the first step in transformation.

2) Reject negative thoughts
After you notice a negative thought, you have the power to reject it. Refuse to entertain it in your mind or on your lips. Reject any thought that lies about who you are, who others are, or who God is. If what you are thinking doesn’t line up with Scripture, it is not true. Toss out any thoughts that makes you feel hopeless, worried, or afraid. When you’re tempted to complain, blame, or shame, use the power God has given you to refrain. When you reject negative thoughts, they lose their power over you.

3) Replace negative thoughts
Each time you exterminate a negative thought that’s been exposed, replace it with a thought that is more true.

For example: Notice the negative thought No one really loves me and replace it with There are people who love me, but most importantly, I am God’s beloved. Or notice the negative thought I always mess things up, and replace it with I’m human, and sometimes fail, but I’m not a failure and I can succeed. Or I’ll never be able to lose the weight/overcome the addiction/find someone to love me with All things are possible with Christ.

At first this may feel awkward or forced or even artificial. (Your brain might not be used to claiming and announcing what’s true!) As you continue to choose what’s most true, though, your brain begins to form new neural pathways that strengthen God’s renewal and transformation of your mind.

I also want to suggest a really helpful tool that will help you as you notice, reject, and replace your negative thoughts. Journal a record of the thoughts you exterminate each day, in an effort to begin recognizing patterns of habitual negative thinking. Beside each one, note the thought you’re choosing to replace the negative one with. Keeping track will also help you recognize when you are beginning to think differently, and breaking free from the stronghold will eliminate certain negative thoughts have had over your life.

This book….. I am so excited to have it.

I kept thinking about me saying on a post right before my surgery that I would share ways that I study the Bible with y’all the next week.

Y’all…. 😂😂😂 sorry for the delay. The surgery took a bit more recovery time than I had anticipated. 😳

So… here goes. I have used many methods to study Gods Word over the years.

I have pondered which ways have made the biggest difference in my walk with God. The main thing is, I have to spend time with Him every day! I say “have to” but I that’s not really the words to describe it. I WANT TO!
I have found I am the best version of myself when I spend time daily with God.
Isn’t that the key to any real relationship? You spend time with the ones you love.

As I was praying with what to share I got this book!!! I did this devotion last year on the Bible App. (If you don’t have that app it I suggest you get it!) I do a devotion (or several) on that app every day. One of the great things about the Bible App is you can look up any topic you are going through and there will be a devotion that is appropriate. It’s so easy and right at your fingertips.
I digress, so as I was looking for a Bible in a year app I ran across “The Bible Recap”. It was a devotion that had a video along with it. It opened my eyes up to so many things in the Bible that I had never understood.
I will share later why this was different and how it helped me.
In the meantime check it out! ❤️🙏

The more you read the Bible; and the more you meditate on it, the more you will be astonished with it. — Charles Spurgeon

Many Christ followers don’t understand what meditation actually means. When we meditate on something we are simply focusing our thoughts. To understand what it means to meditate on God’s Word, let’s read Pastor Rick Warren’s description. He says, “Surprisingly, if you know how to worry, you already know how to meditate on the Word of God. Worry is when you take a negative thought and think on it over and over and over. When you take a passage of Scripture and think on it over and over and over, that’s called meditation.”

This was from my devotion this morning! 👆🏻

The second paragraph jumped off the page at me!! We as people have no problem worrying. Am I right? Especially in this world we live in.
So this right here is how you live in Peace and Joy in spite of what’s going on around you! Meditating on the Word of God is the only way I can have Joy and Peace! I have an amazing woman who has mentoring me for a long time and I can say that one of the many things she has taught me is that if we are going to live in victory this side of Heaven we must meditate on the Word!

To meditate on something means to think about it. To dissect it. It’s really not hard to study the Bible. Pick a verse or chapter and break it down. Look at different translations, read commentaries and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what He wants you to see in the verse.

I will be sharing some ways that I read and study the Bible next week. So join me and let’s dive into the only Book on this earth that truly will give us victory!

Waiting and walking through hard times is not easy. To truly wait well, our thoughts must center on God rather than our situation. When has God been faithful? Consider how He has been merciful, good, and long-suffering while you create a written record.

Write down times in your past when God has been faithful. This will help renew your strength in the hard times.

This is where spiritual strength begins to fill our weary legs of faith once again. And as it does, like David, you and I can choose to rejoice and be glad that we didn’t give up! ❤️

“I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭13:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Part of this was taken from a devotion on the Bible App called “The Journey to Waiting Well”. If you are going through a season of waiting I encourage you to look it up! ❤️

This is something I encourage my clients to take hold of. The last statement of this quote…. Perception is a key component to gratitude. And gratitude is a key component to joy!

This can take some practice if it doesn’t come natural to you. There are practical things you can do to develop this way of thinking.

1) Keep a gratitude journal! Write down at least one thing you are grateful for at the end of each day. Or maybe first thing in the morning! It really shifts your thinking when you posture your thinking toward being grateful.

2) Tell someone else that you are grateful for them and why! The Proverb says, Those who refresh others are themselves refreshed! I live by this Proverb. I am on purpose to express to at least one person either by text or in person that I am grateful for them being in my life!

When you focus on what you are thankful for and refresh someone else there is a shift that happens in your mindset. It takes your focus off of what you are going through and helps you see that everyone is struggling in some way, shape or form. And when you extend thankfulness to others it truly fills your heart with JOY!

Give it a try! ❤️

You might have been knocked down and be walking with a limp from the battles you have faced, but take a moment and regroup, my dear friend, because warriors don’t retreat—they reload. Your mess has been a setup for the message you are about to carry. The story of your past is about to meet the destiny of your future. Your spiritual womb, when touched by the fire of God, will set ablaze a revolution that impacts the lives of everyone around you. Are you ready?

Prayer: Yes, God! Use me. Send me. Flow through me, and let my life, job, and talents bring hope, help, and healing to the world around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
