Our Sensory Processing Disorder Test | PX Docs 04/27/2024

While Sensory Processing Disorder is often dismissed as simply bad behavior, doctors who specialize in SPD know much more about what’s happening.

To find the root cause of these struggles we have to go all the way back to your child’s development - often even before delivery. ➡️

One of the very first things to develop in utero is the brain and autonomic nervous system, so if our mothers are left in a constant state of distress and anxiety, this can greatly affect the developing infant’s brain 🧠 and nervous system.

Another trigger of SPD is birth intervention and trauma which can disrupt the function of the brainstem and upper cervical spinal cord regions, which are the most important areas for processing and integrating sensory information before it reaches the brain. Think of the brainstem as “Air Traffic Control” for all of your child’s seven senses, where it’s responsible for not only organizing and processing the information but also keeping out unwanted nociception. 🔇

The reason your child may be avoiding certain stimuli is to avoid additional ‘noisy’ and stressful situations 😣 they can’t yet tolerate. Additionally, if they are constantly moving and seeking out physical touch and stimulation, they are doing so in order to bring about proprioception, which is the sense of movement. While it may not seem like it, all of that movement and touching things is actually calming their brain down.

It's one thing to talk through ‘why’ this is happening - but more importantly, how do we help it?

At PWC, we use INSiGHT Scans to find, track, and understand if subluxation and dysautonomia are present. And if they are, we need to know two things about them:

1️⃣ How significant or severe (mild, moderate, severe, or intensive)?
2️⃣ Where within the neurospinal system are things primarily located (tracking, targeting)?

Making sure this system is working at full function is an important exam to perform for your child. Put simply, if the nervous system isn’t calm on the inside - sensory symptoms will show on the outside. Learn more about our 𝑆𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑜𝑟𝑦 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐷𝑖𝑠𝑜𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑇𝑒𝑠𝑡 at the link below 👉

Not being able to get a haircut, eat certain foods, or be around loud noises can be a struggle for the whole family! Being nervous to go anywhere in fear of a meltdown or tantrum and outside opinions are saying that “they’re spoiled” or “let them cry it out”... but as their mom and dad, you know that’s not true and something really is bothering your little one!

We get it. ♥️ AND you’re not alone. We see hundreds of parents who have had the same story. The next step they took was to get their child a Neurological INSiGHT Scan at PWC. This test takes 5-10 minutes and can show where that “extra noise” is coming from in their little brain and body.

If this sounds like your family, schedule your Sensory Processing Test today! For more details, click the link in our bio or DM us! We would love to connect with you and your family! 🎉

After feeling hopeless and like they were failing,😞 Aria’s incredible parents kept fighting to help their little girl thrive past major meltdowns, sensory overload, and sleep challenges. Read what mom has to say about her little girl getting her grin back! 😊👇🏼

“Prior to chiropractic care, our little girl was completely different. She was not a happy little girl. She refused to be in unfamiliar places with unfamiliar people surrounding her. Every time we tried to go out we would do so nervously because we knew what may be coming - meltdowns after meltdowns. It was so hard to see her that way.

Aria also never slept through the night. Nighttimes were dreaded because we knew it was going to be a hard night and exhausting. Doctors kept telling us to “let her cry it out,” and “walk away,” family members insisted she was “spoiled.” As her parents, we always knew there was more to it.

After chiropractic care, we truly can say we couldn’t be more blessed. Aria is definitely a happier little, sweet girl. We are astounded to see such a huge positive difference in her personality. She went from screaming and crying when anyone greeted her to smiling ear to ear, happily greeting anyone who came her way. Her sleeping has improved so much. We can say we finally get a full night’s rest and nobody wakes up crabby the next day. Also, her speech has come a long way. She is now beginning to speak in full sentences. It is just amazing what PWC has done for us. Every single doctor and CA there is amazing! We wouldn’t change anything if we could.” ❤️

Go Aria Go! We love watching that ear-to-ear smile light up the whole room when you walk in! 🤩

Many young children struggle with everyday challenges like uncomfortable clothing, crowded places, haircut distress, loud noises, or unexpected transitions. 😣 These seemingly minor sensory sensitivities can accumulate into significant emotional hurdles. If your child shows signs of Sensory Processing Disorder, you're undoubtedly familiar with these struggles. In this video, 🎥 Dr. Matt discusses the underlying causes and reveals a specific Test 📈 that can actually quantify the extent of the struggle (yes, you heard that right, there's a TEST 📊 for it!).

What's even more important is the action plan to make the sensory processing system 🧠 more adaptable and proficient at handling various stimuli. This means you won't have to keep avoiding sensory-overwhelming activities! 💪 Our team is all about creating a more easygoing daily life for your entire family. 🎉

Sensory Issues in Kids | PX Docs 04/24/2024

Sensory processing is a fundamental aspect of our interaction with the world around us. For most kids, heading out into the world to play in nature, meet new friends, and try new things are experiences that bring joy and connection. But for some children, these sensory interactions and experiences can be overwhelming, which can also be exhausting and isolating for you as parents as well. 😢

Sadly the rate and prevalence of sensory issues in kids has exploded over the last generation or two, with some studies and estimates showing it to now be as high as 𝟏 𝐢𝐧 𝟔 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬.

Just like sensory issues and challenges in kids are too easily overlooked, so is the root cause – an overly stressed and out-of-balance nervous system. At the heart of sensory issues and processing challenges in kids are these 3️⃣ neurological challenges:

1️⃣ Subluxation
2️⃣ Dysautonomia
3️⃣ Vagus Nerve Dysfunction

Over time as we address these subluxations and neurological dysfunctions, your child’s nervous system can better calm, relax, and regulate – leading to better sleep, easier transitions, fewer meltdowns, and a vastly improved quality of life! To learn more about how to calm and clear your child’s sensory storm and vastly improve the whole family’s quality of life, please read the article 𝑆𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑜𝑟𝑦 𝐼𝑠𝑠𝑢𝑒𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝐾𝑖𝑑𝑠 at the link below and please reach out with any questions you may have!!

Meet the Kempe Family! 👋🏼

Meet Trisha, Willow, and Meadow! This family initially came to us last summer because Willow was struggling with anxiety and ADHD. Just like we often see, once we see the power of chiropractic with someone in our family, we all want to try it out, too!! 👏 And that's exactly what happened with this awesome crew!! A couple months after Willow saw great results, Meadow started care to help with her energy levels since she was always feeling tired. Then, shortly after, Trisha began care to help with the chronic upper back pain she was experiencing. That's the kind of domino effect we like to see 😂 because helping full families is our favorite!!

Now, after being under care for almost a year, Willow says that her anxiety is completely gone, and she is way more focused! Meadow says that she wakes up feeling energized and ready for the day! Trisha has been new to chiropractic since starting and is currently working on detoxing her body and we are so glad PWC can support her nervous system in her health journey! This family already holds such a special place in our hearts, and we are so amazed with all the incredible changes they have experienced! We love you, Kempe Family!

When it comes to sensory challenges and Sensory Processing Disorder, our team at PWC is of course all about getting adjusted!! And then when the nervous system 🧠 is adaptable and resilient, we love to add in MOVEMENT! With SPD, the brain is usually craving input and movement… Walks, sensory gyms, parks, PT, and OT with our friends at Dream Riders or Pediatric POST, and maybe get in a good arm wrestle against Dr. Jake during your next adjustment! 😂 We bet you can beat him! 😉

We love PT and OT, but sometimes when you add in movement without a resilient and adaptable nervous system, the brain 🧠 still has too much noise to sort through and struggles with sensory overload and challenges! 😣

This is why it is so important to address the vagus nerve and nervous system first and foremost because it truly is the foundation of how our kiddos function! Then you get so much MORE out of those incredible therapies when your child’s nervous system is ready to allow more input in. 👏 To learn more about sensory issues in kids, visit the link in our bio! Away with major meltdowns and sensory processing challenges for Abigail! 👏🏼

Mom said, “Abigail struggled with big emotions and how to regulate them. We were dealing with multiple huge meltdowns daily. This affected our ability to enjoy activities as a family due to fear of meltdowns in public and was affecting her ability to relate to peers and enjoy time with friends. She also struggled with regular bowel movements due to sensory challenges and fear of going.

We felt stressed trying to solve the issues because it seemed like all the conventional methods or advice we tried never worked for her. We never felt listened to or heard at the regular doctor and everything was brushed off as “kids do that” or “she’ll grow out of it.” We felt stuck in the cycle of trying and failing for 2 years.

When we came to PWC, we felt heard for the first time. We felt genuinely cared about and like we were a team that was really trying to help Abigail and get to the root cause of her struggles. There was absolutely no judgment and nothing was just brushed off.

It took a while to see some consistency since she’s had some deep-rooted challenges but after a few months of care, we started to notice meltdowns were getting few and far between. I think I realized everything was working when I said “I don’t remember the last time she had a huge meltdown!”

Now, Abigail is a much happier, calmer, and cooperative child. She still has big emotions but she’s able to handle them better and calm down faster than before. The meltdowns are much less frequent and we go weeks between them now instead of hours (or even minutes!) We also haven’t experienced accidents in months!
She is able to adapt to sensory challenges, transitions, and changes easier too. I feel like Abigail can just enjoy being a kid without fears of meltdowns and accidents. We can enjoy family outings and activities with much less stress. We even took our first small vacation as a family which is something we weren’t able to do before. We are so thankful to everyone at the office who treats Abigail like she matters and genuinely cares about her health & happiness!" ❤️

Tylenol and Autism: What Parents Should Know About Prenatal Acetaminophen | PX Docs 04/20/2024

Rates of autism spectrum disorder have risen steadily in recent decades, now affecting 1 in 36 children, according to CDC estimates. For parents of children with autism, figuring out what factors may have contributed to their child’s diagnosis becomes an all-consuming question. Was it toxins, genetics, or something in the environment? 🤔

Emerging research over the past several years has caused many parents to look at a common medication taken during pregnancy as one potential piece of the autism puzzle: acetaminophen, known widely by the brand name Tylenol. 😖

We now recognize autism is complex, involving genetics but also dysregulation across interconnected bodily systems and exposure to various environmental stressors. Things like prenatal factors, birth trauma, gut issues, toxins, and infections converge into what we call the “Perfect Storm” underlying autism. 🌪️

Protecting children’s health begins with supporting and empowering women and parents to make fully informed choices. As moms, we’re always wondering what is safe for us and our babies. The past decade has seen alarming studies linking prenatal acetaminophen (Tylenol) exposure to higher risks of neurodevelopmental disorders like autism in childhood.

💊 It's a concerning reality we can't ignore, especially when working with pregnant mamas and babies on the regular! As parents, we deserve to know the effects medication has on our little ones.

To read more and access the exact studies we are referring to, visit the link below! And feel free to DM us! We would love to hear from you! ♥️

Before finding PWC, Charlie was struggling majorly with self-regulation, attention, and focus. 😩
Mom wrote that Charlie was diagnosed with ADHD and ASD level 1 in March of 2022 and that she was trying to find other solutions to help Charlie that didn't involve just medication. ❌💊

It was really difficult for them to find the perfect combination of resources to help him with these challenges. Having already tried occupational therapy, executive functioning, medication, diet changes, and supplements… they hoped there had to be something else out there to help him function better in his day-to-day life.

That’s when they found PWC. There they got Charlie's neurological scans done, 📈 and it clearly uncovered a lot of nervous system dysregulation 🧠 that was getting in the way of his ability to regulate himself on his own.

With consistent Neurologically-Focused care that helped calm and coordinate his nervous system, his family started noticing some major changes with Charlie! 🙌🏻
Mom reported:
✨ Improved tone and coordination. His gross motor activities seemed to be easier for him.
✨ He got sick less often and healed faster when he did catch something.
✨ Better emotional regulation, less anxiety, and much more focused at school!
✨He was sleeping better with more energy and had happier moods overall!

Go, Charlie! This kiddo is so fun and intelligent beyond his years that we can’t wait to see where he goes in life from here! 😎

Is Autism Genetic? Why Genetics Alone Fail to Explain Rising Rates and Recovery Potential | PX Docs 04/17/2024

If you or someone you know has a child with autism, undoubtedly as a parent, the first question you asked was, “Why?” Specifically, “Is autism genetic?”

While genes do of course play a role through something called genetic predisposition, even traditional medical doctors and media outlets are now being forced to admit there is also the possibility of an “environmental” factor. 📈 We now know that there is a full-on environmental “Perfect Storm” 🌪️ brewing for kids struggling with autism. While genetic factors undoubtedly influence autism risk, they fail to fully account for recent surges in prevalence or variations in outcomes. Clinging to the notion that autism begins and ends with inherited mutations limits perspectives on care options for families simply seeking to improve their children’s quality of life.

Care centered around detecting and reducing subluxation, nurturing nervous system plasticity, 🧠resolving inflammation, and retraining faulty sensory-motor pathways provides the comprehensive support children with autism truly need. With nervous system function governing all other foundational systems of the body, concentrating efforts here first can lead to gains in digestion, motor tone and coordination, cognition, immunity, and beyond. 👏

We always tell parents we never want to change their incredible child, just give them the best life possible. We are all designed beautifully and uniquely and while some traditional doctors try to force children into boxes labeled “normal," our goal is simply improving the underlying function of their nervous system.

There is more great information at the link below on this largely unanswered question 𝐼𝑠 𝐴𝑢𝑡𝑖𝑠𝑚 𝐺𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑐?

// // // Is tylenol safe while pregnant? // Is Tylenol harmful during pregnancy? // Is Tylenol safe for babies? // drug-free // Remedies for pregnancy pains

Is Autism Genetic? Why Genetics Alone Fail to Explain Rising Rates and Recovery Potential | PX Docs This article explores the common question, "is autism genetic?" and what that really means. It evaluates the latest evidence and highlights the gaps that a nervous system-based approach like PX Docs aims to fill with cause-based, functional care.

If your child is on the autism spectrum, chances are the first question you asked was, “Why?” And likely, the first answer proposed was “genetics.”

But what if genes don't tell the whole story? Research reveals environmental factors and neurological stress may play an equal or greater role in driving rising autism rates!

In this video, Dr. Tony breaks down the latest science on autism and genetics, genes versus environment, and how to restore nervous system regulation critical for development! For more information, feel free to DM us, our team is always on your side! ♥️

Does your child struggle with multiple health challenges that you know in your “gut” feel like they are all somewhat related?? 🤔

Well, you’re probably right! Most of our kids’ health issues are linked to something called the Vagus Nerve. While we could write a book on the symptoms of Vagus Nerve disorders - the key to this post is to understand why the Vagus Nerve is tied to these struggles and then, most importantly, how to help it! 👏

Simply put, Vagus Nerve disorders can negatively affect almost every element of your child’s health. We know infants’ most important health functions start with the “basics” — eating, pooping, and sleeping. 😴 Then, the motor system, immune system, communication (speech), and emotional regulation begin to develop… but can get off track as the child gets older if the Vagus Nerve dysfunction remains.

Our Neurologically-Focused Pediatric Chiropractors at PWC see many Vagus Nerve struggles traced all the way back to birth trauma, such as prolonged labor or using instruments like forceps during delivery, ⚒️ can potentially cause damage to the Vagus Nerve. Especially because the Vagus Nerve is extra sensitive to physical trauma in the neck and thorax, as well as toxins and inflammation.

If you’re interested in learning more about Vagus Nerve Disorders, HRV, and the full run of Neurological INSiGHT Scans we use at PWC, check out the link in our bio and sign up for our Perfect Storm workshop TONIGHT, April 16th, to learn more about how we can help! Before finding Neurologically-Focused Chiropractic, Stella was struggling a lot with body awareness, motor control, sleep, digestion, allergies, focus, sensory processing, and even emotional regulation. When a friend recommended they attend the Perfect Storm event, 🌪 Stella’s parents decided to give it a chance, determined to find more answers and help for their beautiful girl.

While they had already been committed to many awesome therapies for Stella, they found that pediatric chiropractic was a missing piece of the puzzle that helped her feel and function at her best! Read what her amazing momma has to say! 👇🏼
“Stella’s focus and sensory issues have improved so much. Chiropractic has definitely helped improve her allergies, pooping, and body awareness as well. She loves taking walks and trying new foods, and she will even lie on her stomach and do yoga with me now! 🥹 Also, no more green boogers during allergy season is a huge plus!
I will always remember the Perfect Storm event, and Stella’s doctor counting to ten with her before her first adjustment. I knew I chose the right chiropractor and I felt so happy I was taking Stella to a group of doctors that “get it.”

I love PWC because they give the parents hope and treat the special needs community with the love and respect they deserve. So often our kids go unnoticed or ignored, but everyone at the office always says hello to Stella even if she doesn’t say it back...I do notice, and it means a lot to me. You guys have a special place and some wonderful, amazing doctors. I know there are so many different ways to try to help our kids, and chiropractic has been a huge piece for Stella.”

Our office just wouldn’t be the same without this sweet girl and It’s been such a blessing to watch Stella grow and thrive into the beautiful young woman that she is today. ❤️
