They'll be short haul aircraft--but electric aircraft are on the way. Among the things which you hear about electric vehicles--and it applies to electric aircraft as well---is that they're easier and less expensive to maintenance. With cars, there are no spark plugs, catalytic converters, etc to maintenance.

I have to tell you I drive an electric car and my experience with it has been most informative. I've made trips to Madison, WI and to downstate Champaign-Urbana in just the past two weeks and trips of comparable length over the four years I've had my electric vehicle. The recharging is not the challenge some imagine. These trips have eased the concerns I had about recharging such a vehicle on longer trips. I've watched the number of electric vehicles on the road surge and their cost continue to come down. So my ears perk up when I read articles about electrification of aircraft and of marine vessels. There's NO technology which is completely without environmental challenges--no one if fooling themselves about that. But the fact is---we have to do something about greenhouse gas emissions and to improve battery technology, which is happening. The history of our progression from one fuel to lower polluting fuels over time illustrates how doable this has been despite fears expressed at the time.
As this article and others on the subject have pointed out, it's estimated the aviation sector's production of greenhouse emission will triple by 2050 based on projections without the integration of new technologies and less polluting fuels---all of which are under development.

Service Technician

Work Hours: Monday thru Friday, with rotating on-call for evenings and weekends

Pay Scale: Based on Experience

Position Summary:

This position is primarily responsible for performing annual maintenance on residential heating and cooling units, and recommending necessary preventative repairs to the homeowner.

Job Duties Responsibilities:
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair heating and cooling units
• Perform maintenance on heating and cooling equipment
• Analyze system for safety and efficiency
• Communicate with customers regarding options and costs, obtaining approval for repairs/replacements
• Document services, explaining guarantees/warranties, collecting payment, and delivering payment to the office
• Promote service agreements

Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3 years HVAC service experience
• Work with industry-related tools, materials and supplies including ductwork
• Ability to regularly move, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to climb extension ladders to access roof-top units
• Detail oriented and customer service focused
• Strong listening and communication skills
• NATE Certification a plus
• Valid Driver’s License and good driving record
• Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends

Position Summary:

This position is primarily responsible for applying technical skills and knowledge to install, start up, and troubleshoot new systems. In addition, this person will install ventilation, heating, and air conditioning systems within residential settings.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Installer of complete Residential and/or lite commercial systems
• Installation of residential and/or lite commercial ductwork systems
• Sheet Metal bending knowledge
• Ability to work as a team
• Ability to work independently without much supervision, when needed
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Punctual and appropriate dialog with customers
• Willingness to leak and take constructive criticism

Required Credentials:
• 3+ years of experience in HVAC installation.
• A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Working knowledge of national codes and best practices.
• Requisite basic certifications (EPA Universal).
• A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Must have own tools needed for installation and lite service work
• Ability to handle a physical workload
