On the morning of June 6, 2023, the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department swiftly responded to a call involving an unconscious man. Enroute, the SEECOM dispatcher conveyed that the patient was not breathing. Upon arrival, the crews discovered the patient unresponsive and not breathing in his bedroom, with his wife as a witness to the incident.
The crews promptly assessed the situation, moving the patient to an open area for manual CPR and breathing assistance. Concurrently, they applied a mechanical CPR device and a cardiac monitor. Following protocols, crews administered an electrical shock to restore a desirable cardiac rhythm. Life-saving medications were administered, and an airway secured for quality breathing respirations. Thanks to the crews’ actions and expertise, the patient stabilized, achieving a self-sustaining heartbeat. Subsequently, the patient was transported to the hospital for additional care, leading to a successful recovery.
Yesterday, the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department had the privilege of being joined by the patient and his family to recognize the remarkable outcome of the incident and award each of the responders the Life Saving Award.
Congratulations to Lt. Thuma, FF/PM’s Gualdoni, Kreher, Walker and Dispatcher Vonesh!

In partnership with the American Water Works Association, the City would like to celebrate World Toilet Day! This might not be the most glamorous holiday, but it’s important to remember the crucial roles that toilets and our City’s wastewater system play. Lacking proper toilets or wastewater management can affect all of us. Poor sanitation contaminates drinking-water sources, rivers, beaches, and food crops. More toilets and effective sanitation equals a cleaner and safer environment!
