Attached you will find the Rules and Schedule for the 2022 Virginia Junior Beef Roundup Show and Events, that will be held in conjunction with the 2022 VA Beef Expo. Youth cattle shows will take place on Friday, April 15th and Saturday, April 16th – THERE WILL BE NO SHOWS OR EVENTS ON SUNDAY, APRIL 17TH.

The Virginia Hereford Association, Incorporated (the “Association”) Heifer Scholarship Program (the
“Program”) is a mentoring and development program for youth that are interested in becoming involved in
the farming industry. It is our goal to make it possible for a younger generation of future Hereford
breeders to learn through the management of a Registered Hereford female.

Where: Rockingham County Fairgrounds, Harrisonburg, VA
What: Regional Youth Livestock Judging Contest for kids age 5-19.
Three divisions: (Contestants age the day of the contest)
P*e Wee 5-8 yrs
Junior 9-13 yrs
Seniors 14-19 yrs
Contest will include:
4 Cattle classes, 2 Hog classes, 2 Lamb classes and 2 Goat classes (as available).
We will have 3-4 questions classes and an Optional Reasons Jackpot.
Contestants will use a scantron for class placings and answers to questions.
A nice lunch will be provided with a brief educational/motivational speaker during lunch
before reasons.
Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 individuals in each age division, with cash prizes for the
top teams.
Contest will be limited to the first 200 participants.

You are invited to participate in a research study of Processing Needs of Virginia’s Sheep and Goat Producers. The purpose of this study is to determine the processing needs of sheep and goat producers and to determine perceived use and benefit of Virginia’s first small ruminant mobile processing unit. It is being conducted by Drs. Dahlia O’Brien and Stephan Wildeus with VSU’s College of Agriculture. The online survey should only take 5-8 minutes and will remain open for about a month. Take the survey now.
FINAL REMINDER: Entries for the 2021 State 4-H and FFA VIRTUAL Meats Evaluation Contest are due TODAY, FRIDAY, April 30th at 5:00 pm.

The Virginia Dept. of Forestry and the Virginia Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts are partnering this summer to offer the Virginia Academy of Natural Resources – a virtual “camp” for current 8th-12th graders.
This learning opportunity will take place July 12 – 16, 2021. The camp will include virtual presentations from natural resource professionals from 9:00 AM to 12:15 PM daily, self-guided field explorations in the afternoons, small group work on a project, and a mock Envirothon.
Students may apply at https://forms.gle/9mRUtyoaPRvFQY2N9. The only cost for this week of fun and learning is $25 to cover materials for field studies, which will be mailed to students prior to camp.
