The Crewe Police Department wants to remind everyone to take valuables out of cars, lock the vehicles, even in their own driveways and close car doors and windows to keep valuables from being stolen. In many cases, larceny from vehicles is a crime of opportunity and we have seen an increase of thefts from vehicles that are unlocked.

Stay alert for questionable behavior such as people checking door handles or peering in car windows. “If you see anyone acting suspiciously in the area, don’t approach them.

Always report suspicious activity immediately by calling the Crewe Police Department at 434-645-7472 or by calling 9-1-1.

Here are just a few tips that will help protect your car from being broken into:

1) Do not leave your car unlocked
2) Do not leave a spare key or key fob inside your vehicle
3) Do not leave your windows open
4) Make sure you park in a well lit area
5) Keep your registration and insurance card with you, not in your vehicle
6) Store your valuables out of sight, leave nothing in view
7) Never leave your car running unattended

Our sincerest condolences go out to the families, friends, and colleagues of Police Officer John Painter and Campus Safety Officer J.J. Jefferson.

Thank you for your service.

In an email sent to students and staff, Bridgewater College said Campus Police Officer John Painter and Campus Safety Officer J.J. Jefferson were shot and killed.

“These officers were close friends, known to many of us as the “dynamic duo.” John was J.J.’s best man in his wedding this year. They were beloved by students, faculty and staff. I hurt for their families and loved ones, as I know we all do,” Bridgewater College President David Bushman said in the email.

Buzzed and drunk driving are serious, risky behaviors that cause needless deaths on our roadways. Last year before the holidays, from Nov. 30 to Dec. 14, 2020, there were 251 alcohol-related crashes, 146 injuries, and four deaths on the Commonwealth's streets.

School is back in session & school buses are out on the roads! When the 🛑 is out, always stop and watch for students.

Stopping isn't required if the bus is on the other side of the median, but you should still be on the lookout for kids crossing. More: https://bit.ly/3AgUS0e
