Just finished up a refurbishment on a landscape bed that needed some meticulous attention. Added some landscape block in a terraced pattern to provide some depth and contour to the existing slope, trimmed back the shrubs, opened up a visual lane to a beautiful palm that was hidden, and added a deep layer of mulch to top it all off.

Crabgrass can take over your lawn so maintain a good grass height, fertilize, and water. Another item is to prep early! Start around March 15 with a pre- emergent treatment and then again in May.

According to UFIFAS: “The best way to manage crabgrass is to get ahead of it with a pre-emergent herbicide. Dithiopyr, pendimethalin, and prodiamine (among several others) are common pre-emergent herbicides that are widely available to homeowners and can be used to stop crabgrass from emerging.”

Watering and mowing tips for a healthy lawn......

Water early in the day (2-3 times per week) to avoid fungus growth and thatch build up which chokes your root system - if you walk on your lawn and it’s crunchy or you leave footprints it’s too dry! Start the water cycle back and give it at least an inch per week!

Mow the lawn regularly to avoid cutting any more than a 1/3 of the grass at any one time ..
