Let Me Introduce Myself!

My name is Melissa Dupre, yes I’m from here, yes my daddy’s from here, yes my grandparents and great-grandparents are also from here. We’re from a little backwoods place deep in the heart of Southeast Louisiana called Barker’s Corner in Covington.

MY CANDLEMAKER JOURNEY:
In 1998, I started making candles for myself mainly cause I loved good smelling candles so much. and..Back then there was no such thing as YouTube!! Nope, you wanted to make something? You were shown, it was passed down or either you had to figure it out on your own! and Well.. I figured it out!
Then it happened! Everyone !
I mean everyone and their momma wanted one! Friends, Family, Church, Co-Worker’s..they couldn’t get enough!
That’s How It All Started…
Then Cream of the Crop Country Candles was born.

Back then I was 1 of 2 candlemakers in all of St Tammany Parish and the only one selling in Covington, Folsom and Bush areas.

I’m also the mother of two wonderful grown children, one which is my daughter Jessica who was born with severe multiple disabilities and handicaps.
Life happens! .. but have always been a firm believer of God’s Plan!
Keeping your Faith anchored in Christ is the only way to make it through our difficulties!

I eventually, after many years had to put my little side hustle business on hold…👉🏼Fast forward to 2023, we were able to get Jessica settled in a fantastic assisted living facility with the help of my wonderful daughter n law. Jessica is now 38 and thriving!
She loves it and I’m grateful !🙌🏼💖

In the beginning of 2025 I decided to do something for myself and start over with the candles.

I applied for an LLC, with the intention of opening a Christian gift shop on Lee Rd, directly across and in front of my grandmaw and grandpaw Hunt’s old hardware & grocery store.
I began by re-inventing the brand.

Cream of the Crop is now..
“Southern Grace Soap & Candles”

I’m still planning on opening the store here and possibly make it an indoor/outdoor place for vendors on the weekends. But because of a few road blocks, it will be a while.
So in the meantime it’s vendor markets, shops and phone orders.

Now that I have that all said.
I want you to know that I pride myself in creating products with nothing but premium ingredients available! It’s my goal and one of my priorities to provide you with handmade products of the highest quality!

Today, more than ever, there is more younger and upcoming competition.. and I honestly wish them the best as they pave the way for the future.

As Southern Grace, I am committed to build and bring quality to my community, my customers and future customers!
