[03/18/21]   The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service announced today that the federal income tax filing due date for individuals for the 2020 tax year will be automatically extended from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021.

Even with the new deadline, we urge taxpayers to consider filing as soon as possible, especially those who are owed refunds. Filing electronically with direct deposit is the quickest way to get refunds, and it can help some taxpayers more quickly receive any remaining stimulus payments they may be entitled to.

[04/16/20]   FOR THOSE THAT DID, YOU MOST LIKELY WILL NEVER RECEIVE MONEY FROM THE IRS AGAIN ON APRIL 15TH! 😀

[04/15/20]   The IRS.gov Get My Payment information tool is now live on the IRS website. Taxpayers can use the Get My Payment site to check on the status of their Economic Impact Payment, confirm their payment type (direct deposit or mailed check), and add their direct deposit information if it has not already been provided to the IRS.

Taxpayers will not be able to update their mailing address using the Get My Payment site as the IRS had previously announced. Economic Stimulus Payments will be mailed to the address filed on the 2019 tax return. If a 2019 return has not been filed, the IRS will mail the payment to the taxpayer's address as filed on their 2018 tax return.

If you don’t have to file (other than those receiving SS benefits), use the "Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here" application to provide simple information so you can get your payment.

[04/14/20]   The IRS has begun depositing Economic Impact Payments into the accounts of taxpayers who filed a 2018 or 2019 tax return with direct deposit information included in the return. This includes taxpayers who applied for a bank product and selected the direct deposit option on their bank application. If the taxpayer chose for the preparer to print their check, the stimulus payment will be mailed to the address on the tax return.

Later this week, taxpayers will be able to check the status of their payment, change their address and change their direct deposit information by using the IRS.gov Get My Payment application which is anticipated to be live on the IRS website by April 17th.

Most taxpayers do not need to take action in order to receive their Economic Impact Payment (EIP).

Taxpayers who are not typically required to file a tax return can now file a simple return electronically. A simple return is a return with filing status single or married filing joint and $0 income. Filing a simple return for taxpayers will allow household and direct deposit information to be filed with the IRS. The IRS will use the information from the simple return to direct deposit or mail a stimulus check to the taxpayer.

Social Security recipients who are not otherwise required to file a return will not need to file a simple return in order to receive their Economic Impact Payments (EIP). The Department of Treasury will automatically deposit the payments into their bank accounts.

[04/06/20]   For those clients that used a "bank product" (meaning you did not pay a the preparation fee up front - it came out of your refund), Taxslayer is still working closely with IRS and the participating banks to determine how these customers will receive their stimulus payments. Stay tuned here for the latest information.

[04/03/20]   The Treasury Department and IRS have reversed course and recipients of a Form SSA-1099 or RRB-1099 do not need to file a tax return in order to receive their Economic Impact Payment . Treasury announced last night that it has determined that it will follow the guidelines in the law and use its authority to issue the checks based on the information that Social Security and the Railroad Retirement Board provide.

Coronavirus Tax Relief | Internal Revenue Service 03/31/2020

Coronavirus Tax Relief | Internal Revenue Service

IR-2020-61, March 30, 2020

WASHINGTON — The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service today announced that distribution of economic impact payments will begin in the next three weeks and will be distributed automatically, with no action required for most people. However, some seniors and others who typically do not file returns will need to submit a simple tax return to receive the stimulus payment.

Who is eligible for the economic impact payment?

Tax filers with adjusted gross income up to $75,000 for individuals and up to $150,000 for married couples filing joint returns will receive the full payment. For filers with income above those amounts, the payment amount is reduced by $5 for each $100 above the $75,000/$150,000 thresholds. Single filers with income exceeding $99,000 and $198,000 for joint filers with no children are not eligible.

Eligible taxpayers who filed tax returns for either 2019 or 2018 will automatically receive an economic impact payment of up to $1,200 for individuals or $2,400 for married couples. Parents also receive $500 for each qualifying child.

How will the IRS know where to send my payment?

The vast majority of people do not need to take any action. The IRS will calculate and automatically send the economic impact payment to those eligible.

For people who have already filed their 2019 tax returns, the IRS will use this information to calculate the payment amount. For those who have not yet filed their return for 2019, the IRS will use information from their 2018 tax filing to calculate the payment. The economic impact payment will be deposited directly into the same banking account reflected on the return filed.

The IRS does not have my direct deposit information. What can I do?

In the coming weeks, Treasury plans to develop a web-based portal for individuals to provide their banking information to the IRS online, so that individuals can receive payments immediately as opposed to checks in the mail.

I am not typically required to file a tax return. Can I still receive my payment?

Yes. People who typically do not file a tax return will need to file a simple tax return to receive an economic impact payment. Low-income taxpayers, senior citizens, Social Security recipients, some veterans and individuals with disabilities who are otherwise not required to file a tax return will not owe tax.

How can I file the tax return needed to receive my economic impact payment?

IRS.gov/coronavirus will soon provide information instructing people in these groups on how to file a 2019 tax return with simple, but necessary, information including their filing status, number of dependents and direct deposit bank account information.

I have not filed my tax return for 2018 or 2019. Can I still receive an economic impact payment?

Yes. The IRS urges anyone with a tax filing obligation who has not yet filed a tax return for 2018 or 2019 to file as soon as they can to receive an economic impact payment. Taxpayers should include direct deposit banking information on the return.

I need to file a tax return. How long are the economic impact payments available?

For those concerned about visiting a tax professional or local community organization in person to get help with a tax return, these economic impact payments will be available throughout the rest of 2020.

Where can I get more information?

The IRS will post all key information on IRS.gov/coronavirus as soon as it becomes available.

The IRS has a reduced staff in many of its offices but remains committed to helping eligible individuals receive their payments expeditiously. Check for updated information on IRS.gov/coronavirus rather than calling IRS assistors who are helping process 2019 returns.

[03/27/20]   Just know that the stimulus payments going out are actually an advance of a credit that will be on your 2020 tax return 😁. Here we go....will you be overpaid? Underpaid? ...on the credit? We shall see 🤦🏼‍♀️. I love a challenge 😁

[03/22/20]   The IRS revised it's original ruling March 21, 2020
The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service are providing special tax filing and payment relief to individuals and businesses in response to the COVID-19 Outbreak. Not only the payment deadline, but the filing deadline has now been extended from April 15 to July 15, 2020 as well. The IRS urges taxpayers who are owed a refund to file as quickly as possible. For those who can't file by the July 15, 2020 deadline, the IRS reminds individual taxpayers that everyone is eligible to request an extension to file their return.

[03/20/20]   YOU DO NOT HAVE UNTIL JULY 15th to file your tax return! You still must file a tax return or an extension by April 15th. However, if you owe the IRS, you are given an additional 90 days (July 15th) to pay and avoid interest or penalties.

[03/18/20]   The U.S. government will postpone the April 15 tax-payment deadline for millions of individuals, giving Americans an additional 90 days to pay their 2019 income-tax bills in an unprecedented move intended to ease the economic pain inflicted by the coronavirus. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that the 90-day reprieve applies only to tax payments. Income tax returns or an extension for 2019 must still be filed by April 15th! Keep in touch with for the latest tax news!

[03/16/20]   The IRS has not officially extended the tax filing deadline. For the time being, individual federal income tax returns for tax year 2019 are still due on or before April 15th, 2020. Our doors remain open and we are here for you! We will keep you updated regarding any changes regarding the filing and processing of federal tax returns!
