Antiquity Oaks was created as a homestead by the Niemann-Boehle family in 2002 and is now a teaching
In 2002, the Niemann-Boehle family moved to the country to start growing their own food organically. Over the years, their children grew up and moved away, and today Antiquity Oaks LLC has become a teaching farm where people can attend classes, participate in residential farm internships, and volunteer to learn more about sustainable living.

I am at the market today with our goat milk soap and pullet eggs!

We will have our pullet eggs at the market! What are pullet eggs? I'm so glad you asked! They are the eggs that are laid by young hens, so they are smaller than our typical "Large" eggs you see in the store. They are officially "Medium" sized, but a dozen medium eggs only weigh 3 ounces less than a dozen large eggs. (24 ounces for a dozen large eggs vs 21 ounces for a dozen medium eggs)
ONE WEEK TO GO: Our parking lot is going to be hoppin' on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2pm-6pm when we fill it with LOCAL vendors! You're going to find all sorts of produce, flowers, coffee, pastries, meat, mushrooms, skincare and wellness items... and that doesn't even include sampling and fun things going on INSIDE the store! Make sure the Whole Lot 'a Local Market is on your calendar... Look at all the vendors who will be here:

If you want to know more about Deborah's writing life and her upcoming memoir of the first six years on Antiquity Oaks, you can follow her on Substack.
What am I doing here? What am I doing here? I already have a website, a YouTube channel, and a presence on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. So, why am I here? Believe me, I thought long and hard about whether or not I really wanted to add another thing to my to-do list, but I’ve decided to give it a go!

Deborah will be at the Green Top event in Bloomington on Aug. 30. Stop by and say hi!
Our list of local vendors who will be attending our Whole Lot 'a Local event on Aug. 30 continues to grow! Bringing our current vendor count to 14! You're going to love the variety of produce, meats, flowers, soaps, coffee... and much more. Lady had six kids!
Frances had triplets!
Because Elyse had quads, we decided to bottle feed the doeling. These are the three boys that she’s raising.

Two of Elyse’s adorable quads!

Elyse kicked off the 2023 kidding season with a bang by having quads -- 3 bucklings and 1 doeling. The little doe only weighed 1.9 #, so we decided to bottlefeed her as she wouldn't have a chance with her 3 BIG brothers.

Our goat milk soap is now being sold at Green Top Grocery in Bloomington, IL! We use milk from our herd of Nigerian dwarf goats. We only use essential oils to scent our soap -- no "fragrance oils" EVER! -- and we also have unscented available for those who prefer no scent at all. Got questions? Just ask! We love to talk about our soap AND our goats!

Just got the goat website updated, including the kidding schedule for this spring! About half of our kids are already reserved.

We will be taking lambs to Chenoa Locker on Monday! Let me know if you want more info or want to reserve one!
Once again, all of our goats tested NEGATIVE for CAE, CL, and Johnes!

Jennifer gave birth to buck-doe twins a few days ago!

Kidding season 22 has begun! Sybil gave birth this afternoon to buck-doe twins!

After totally ignoring our goat website for the last few years, I've updated the kidding schedule for this spring. Our first does are due in about a week. https://nigeriandwarfdairygoats.com/

Seed catalogs are arriving! Who else has received some?
Do you know how I told you that I was really excited about having several new bucks to use this year? Well, the thing about new bucks is that some of them are slow learners and you can’t just show them a training video.

Our gaggle of geese — Toni the Roman, Papa Goose the embden, Buffy the buff, and Yin and Yang the Chinese geese

We added Chinese geese to the homestead this year, and I absolutely adore them!
Breeding season has begun! I am so excited about next spring’s kids because we bought two new bucks this year, and we kept four of our own bucklings for breeding. We are going to have a lot of diversity in next year’s kids.

I love this adorable Sebright Bantam hen! She’s about eight or nine years old now!

Our chickens love apples! They seem to go for the worm holes first!

Check out our squash Harvest for this year!
We just took our 100% grassfed lamb to Chenoa Locker. You tell them exactly what you want in terms of cuts. Hanging weights range from 29 to 45 pounds, but some of that is bone, so it's not all meat. Price is $7 per pound (hanging weight) plus $70 for processing paid to Chenoa on pickup. This will fit in a picnic cooler.
We don't normally have any extras, but two long-time customers who usually buy two each decided not to buy this year. If you have any questions, just ask!
Lambs will be going to Chenoa on October 4, which is earlier than normal, but they were born in January this year. If you are interested, let me know!

We were featured on the Crate Free USA website! (And FYI, we have grass-fed lambs available in October!)

I'm introducing Lady's quintuplets, talking about how many kids a doe can feed, and showing you some pretty obvious hair swirls on one of the doelings, which means she is not polled. Since Daddy was polled, there's a 50% chance of kids being polled, and looks like one doeling and one buckling are polled.

Sphinx pose in goat yoga? Or trying to help a couple of clueless kids learn to nurse?

We will be offering an egg CSA from May through October. The regular price for eggs from our happy hens is $5 a dozen, but CSA members get the following discounts. If you want 2 dozen per month, they would be $4.50 each, which would be $54 for six months. If you want 3 dozen per month, they would be $4 each, which would be $72 for six months. We will be delivering to your home or office/school in the Joliet area the first Tuesday of every month. Pickup at the farm is available for those who live closer. You can either mail us a check or pay at the first delivery.
They are 4 days old now! And Anna jumped out of the laundry basket this morning, so we had to come up with a new place for them to hang out in the house for now.
Time for another bottle for two of Ellie's quintuplets! She is raising three of them, and we are taking care of the other two.
Ellie started our kidding season with quintuplets! Yes she did! Three girls and two boys!

I'm thinking of starting to let our baby animals visit people during their Zoom meetings ...

Finished the kidding schedule for this spring! https://nigeriandwarfdairygoats.com/kidding/

If you've always wanted to make soap, here is your chance. I no longer teach soap classes on the farm, but you can watch the videos in the online course as many times as you want, and you can also ask me questions via our discussion board.
We will be taking our pigs to the locker in November, as well as our 2020 lambs. Let me know if you're interested in either!
