Cumberland Brigade Flag Day.. Saturday 3 March at Pound Gap 1200- 1500 at the latest. I cannot copy over the full announcement. It is located on the Cumberland Brigade page https://www.facebook.com/CumberlandBrigade/

"The SCV will be celebrating the 3rd annual Confederate Flag Day, which is in the SCV Standing Orders as March 4. Last year was a huge success. Let us strive to make it bigger and better his year! Each member is encouraged to fly a Confederate Flag on March 3-4, 2018. The logic behind this date is that March 4, 1861 is when First National Flag (Stars and Bars) was hoisted over the Confederate Capitol in Montgomery, Alabama Confederate Veteran and on March 4, 1865 President Jefferson Davis signed a bill into law creating the Third National Flag" SCV Commander-in-Chief Strain

Slanderous Anti-South Legislation in U.S. House of Representatives
The official title is: H.R.4994 - No Federal Funding for Confederate Symbols Act 117th Congress (2021-2022).

On August 10, 2021, New York Rep. Espaillat, Adriano with 35 cosponsors introduced H.R. 4994. They justify the proposed prohibition on the use of Federal funds for any Confederate symbol because:

The Congress finds the following:

(1) The Confederate battle flag is one of the most controversial symbols from U.S. history, signifying a representation of racism, slavery, and the oppression of African Americans.

(2) The Confederate flag and the er****on of Confederate monuments were used as symbols to resist efforts to dismantle Jim Crow segregation, and have become pillars of Ku Klux Klan rallies.

(3) There are at least 1,503 symbols of the Confederacy in public spaces, including 109 public schools named after prominent Confederates, many with large African-American student populations.

(4) There are more than 700 Confederate monuments and statues on public property throughout the country, the vast majority in the South. These include 96 monuments in Virginia, 90 in Georgia, and 90 in North Carolina.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every SCV member should contact his U.S. Representative asking them to vote against H.R. 4994 because of its hateful and slanderous misrepresentation of Southerners past and present. The Bill was referred to the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment; the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials; the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit; the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management; and the Subcommittee on Aviation. At this time (Aug. 21, 2021) no further action has been taken by the House.

If your congressman is on one of the subcommittees listed—it is especially important that you contact him and voice your opposition to the bill. Even if your congressman is not on one of these subcommittees—contact them and voice your opposition to the bill.

Stress that this bill will have a detrimental impact on Southern “Civil War” tourism.

Forrest Reinterment Update:
July 8, 2021

Compatriots,

As you may know by now, September 17-18, 2021, will be the dates for paying respects to General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife, Mary Ann Montgomery Forrest. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Friday. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 10:00 AM. Please bring a lawn chair for Saturday and water, there will be bottled water for sale.
You will need to register for security reasons. The website will be up soon on the front page of SCV.org but for those who wish to register now, you go to the site by using the following URL code: www.cicscv76.wixsite.com/forrestfuneral

This will create a free ticket (or pass) that you will need to save for the event because it will have a QR Code that you will need to have scanned to get on the property. THIS IS MANDATORY for security reasons. If you lose it, I am sorry you will not be allowed to come on the property because security will not allow you. Why are we doing this? Simply put, this is a funeral not a protest rally. We want to maintain the silence and respect that is desired for such a proceeding free from protestors and to protect the property and our members. Thus, EVERYONE (men, women, children, GEC members, and reenactors) must register. The ticket will log your name and when the QR code is scanned, it will identify to security that you are a registered guest for the proceedings. You will need this ticket for both Friday and Saturday. The ticket can be stored on your phone as well if you do not want to print it off on paper.

Reenactors that wish to participate, there are strict uniform and weapons guidelines so please read them. No Officers except those that have been appointed. Those wanting to participate on the Honor Guard to guard the General and his wife’s remains, you will have to follow the same guidelines as other reenactors and pick a date and time you wish to serve. Guards will be changed every hour. Reenactors may Camp on site. If you are serving as Honor Guards during the night you will need to Camp on site because grounds will be closed during the night. Please read all instructions and expectations. You will need to sign a waiver once on site to participate.

PCiC Paul Gramling, Lt. Commander-in-Chief Jason Boshers, Executive Director Adam Southern, and myself have worked hard to create an air of silence and respect for the family as they have allowed us to witness the General and his Wife be reinterred on our grounds to be their final resting place only 30 minutes from his birthplace and on grounds he is familiar with from the war.

Let us work together to make this event a success. If you wish to give a donation to the event, a link is on the front page of the site since we are still collecting funds for the event.

Thank you in advance for your support and your understanding as we go forward and eventually start on phase two of reconstructing the plaza.

Larry McCluney, Jr

Announcement
Forrest Remains Recovered!
June 11, 2021

Compatriots,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that recovery of General Nathan Bedford Forrest and Mary Ann Montgomery Forrest’s remains have been recovered from their former gravesite in Memphis. I want to congratulate Lee Miller, the men on the Recovery Crew, and the members of the Nathan Bedford Forrest Camp #215 in Memphis, TN and the legal team of H. Edward Phillips III, Chuck Blackard, III, W. J. “Bo” Ladner, III, and Jonathan J. Pledger, on a job well done. We also thank the Forrest Family for allowing us to take part in this momentous occasion. The remains are held in an undisclosed location and later will be transported to an undisclosed location in Middle Tennessee. These sites will be kept in secrecy for security reasons.

Now we enter the next phase, the planning for the funeral. Fundraising still continues as we raise money for the re-interment of General Forrest and his beloved wife. Please give to make this event happen as we bring one of our heroes home to be buried on land less than 30 minutes from where he was born. Let us always keep in mind that we are honored by the Forrest Family to participate in this solemn occasion. NO we do not have a date set yet, once the committee has finish all the details, then we will be making an announcement so you can make plans to attend.

Once the funeral is complete, then phase three; restoring the plaza and remounting the equestrian statue on the grave will occur. This will not be easy nor quick. Once complete we will rededicate this plaza to honor the General.

Please be patient with us as you and the entire membership will be informed once the date is secured. For now, let us “walk a little prouder and hold our heads higher” in this great victory! God has truly vindicated us in this effort. Let us remember the charge given to us by General Stephen Dill Lee as we continue to press forward.

I just got this and thought I should pass it on asap. Hope all is well my friend......I had written to you earlier regarding your participation in memorial services for several Confederate veterans whose identities are unknown. This would take place at American Legion Post 115 in Stearns, Kentucky. Although you had expressed support for our project, the Covid-19 outbreak put our plans on the backburner, but we have decided to go ahead with the ceremony on Sept. 5. If you can still take part in this ceremony, it would be appreciated. The Post came into possession of these grave markers some time ago and decided to erect them in a special cemetery on Legion grounds in memory of those soldiers who gave their lives in defense of the Confederate cause. Congress passed a number of laws that required for Union and Confederate Civil War veterans to be treated equally.

In 1906, Congress passed Public Law 38 to provide funding and care for the graves of Confederate Veterans.

In 1929, Congress passed Public Law 810 to authorize the Secretary of War to erect headstones over the graves of Confederate Veterans. This Public Law was codified as 38 U.S. Code § 2306 — Headstones, markers, and burial receptacles.

In 1958, Congress passed Public Law 85–425 and 85–857. These laws provided for pensions for Confederate veterans and the widows and children of the veterans.

06/09/2020

US PUBLIC LAW 85-425, SECTION 410 - Confederate Veterans and all Confederate graves were declared those of US war dead. Those desecrating Confederate graves and Confederate momuments are defiling UNITED STATES VETERANS.
