Featured in Give Guide: Coralville Community Food Pantry

Serving Coralville, Tiffin and Oxford, the Coralville Community Food Pantry was founded in 2009 and served an average of 3,250 residents annually from 2019-2021. With their mission statement—“We are an anti-hunger nonprofit organization providing critical and innovative food assistance services to the greater Coralville community. We believe that food is a human right and that food has the power to bring people together”—CCFP also acknowledges that food alone cannot fix the problem of hunger.

“Hunger and poverty are symptoms of deeper inequalities related to health, housing, economics, racism, ableism, white supremacy and more. Until we address those issues, hunger will persist,” writes John Boller, CCFP Executive Director.

In pursuit of the innovative solutions their mission statement promises, CCFP is currently raising funds to build a new and direly needed food pantry building which will help them remain a vital safety net for the long haul. Gratitude post! Board member Tara McGovern is stepping up big time while the bulk of our staff takes much deserved vacation time. This week, Tara took the reigns of our Home Delivery Program—with her help, we were able to ensure that our neighbors continued to access the food they need and deserve.

Additional shoutout to future board member Diana Boeglin, current board member Rob Rogers, and a slew of amazing volunteers for jumping in to help with various shifts this week. We are lucky to have some incredible people on our team!

Today was bittersweet as pantry volunteer (and one of the kindest human beings) Guru said his goodbyes before leaving for a new life adventure in Atlanta. Though he’ll be miles away, Guru will always be a part of the pantry family! As a parting gift, he brought us one of his favorite South Indian dishes—homemade vegetable sambar with idli (fluffy rice cake). Wishing you all the best, Guru!

We are so excited about this partnership with our friends at Houses into Homes!

We are excited to launch Settle in Together, a collaboration between Houses into Homes and the Coralville Community Food Pantry! We will be coordinating delivery of furniture and food to Coralville and Tiffin residents who are interested in participating. Working together, we will furnish the home *and fill the pantries and refrigerators for our neighbors and friends! 👭🏻🧡🪑🍞🥕

Our first joint delivery — furniture and food — was last weekend. We’re looking forward to serving the residents of Coralville and Tiffin with our friends at the Coralville Community Food Pantry on our next delivery day, and our Coralville residents are SO thrilled to look forward to gathering around their new dining tables, with plenty of food to eat. Also, we will be attending the Coralville Community Food Pantry's Free Community Meal, taking place this evening, from 5-7pm, at the Coralville Rec Center. As always, the meal looks amazing, and we hope to see you there! Together, we make it home! 🧡🍛

Despite the unusual December showers, we still dished up 371 meals through last night’s Free Community Meal at the Coralville Parks and Recreation Center. It was such a treat to share good food and conversation with our neighbors!

This event would not be possible without the contributions of hardworking and generous people. Thanks, first and foremost, to our Community Projects Coordinator Hai Huynh for spearheading this wonderful event and crafting a stunningly delicious menu.

Additional shout-outs to: Food Pantry and Rec Center staff and volunteers, Mariam Girls’ Club, Friends of the Coralville Public Library, The Iowa Children's Museum, Coralville United Methodist Church, Trader Joe's- Coralville, Costco, Ecocare Supply, Johnson County Food Policy Council, and…last but not least, Santa Claus!

BIG MILK ENERGY!

Today, we raise a glass (of milk) to legendary Table to Table volunteers Harry and Nancy for rescuing 5,000+ pounds of Kalona SuperNatural products all by themselves! We took as much off of their hands as possible, but they deserve a round of applause (and perhaps some whirlpool bath time) for their heroic efforts. Thanks, friends!

Today we co-hosted an info session with Coralville United Methodist Church, to give neighbors in the immediate vicinity of the future food pantry building a chance to ask questions. We appreciate those who came out!

We believe the new food pantry will add value, beauty, and cohesiveness to this already wonderful neighborhood.

Special thanks to Pastor Leigh Brown and Corey Houchins-Witt for helping organize this important event!

We are deeply saddened to learn of the unexpected death of friend of the food pantry and all around wonderful human being Javon Stovall.

Two years ago, Javon joined our crew to partake in a West Wing trivia night fundraiser for United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties. As a West Wing scholar, Javon was undoubtedly our ringer and the life of the party that night. He single-handedly carried our team to a second place finish, earning us a box of goldfish crackers (CJ Cregg’s favorite!) 😊

We will miss your huge heart and contagious kindness, Javon. Gone far too soon ❤️
