TAKO is an organization based in Johnson & Fayette counties dedicated to providing immersive outdoor Take a Kid Outdoors (TAKO) relies on sponsors and donors to keep our events free and to help us promote and encourage unstructured play while providing support to families in our community.
Take a Kid Outdoors (TAKO) was started in 2006 by Richard E. "Dick" Jensen in West Union, Iowa. Jensen, a passionate advocate of all things within nature, wanted to create an organization that promoted unstructured enjoyment of nature. We're excited to host another Luminary Night Hike on Friday, January 21! Luminaries will be set up from 6:00 to 8:45 p.m. at the Conservation Education Center in F.W. Kent Park.
The hike is 1 mile, including a 1/2 mile loop around the CEC trail and an additional spur to the hilltop bench overlooking the Fishing Pond. This hike is self-guided, and hikers can come and go as schedules allow between 6:00 and 8:45 p.m. No JCC staff will be guiding this event, and there will be no building access.
Bundle up snug, pack your thermos of hot chocolate, and refresh your owl call ID - we regularly hear great horned and barred owls here!
Good morning TAKO friends! Check out this show coming soon! Back in 2016, our Executive Director, Judy Joyce and her husband Brian volunteered to work with Sea Turtles and had the pleasure of spending some time with Camille on St. Catherine's Island. We are so proud of what she is doing and have enjoyed watching her and Bree over the past few years.
