Why Do Diabetics Get An Annual Eye Exam? | Roggy Eye Clinic

Diabetics are susceptible to developing cataracts (a clouding of the eye’s lens) earlier in life. https://www.roggyeyeclinic.com/eye-care-services/

People with diabetes are about 50% more likely to develop glaucoma, an eye disease that causes damage to the optic nerve. It can be detected by an increase of eye pressure in the eye. Macular edema (and macular degeneration) are common in diabetics because of a malfunctioning of the blood vessels in the inner region of the retina which is responsible for sharp and clear vision. Most commonly, diabetes can cause diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is an eye disease that affects the blood vessels in the very important retina. If you have diabetes, you should talk to your eye doctor about the risk and likelihood of certain eye diseases.

Did you know that snails have very poor vision? Though they have a lens on their eyes, they're lacking the muscles needed to focus on images. They can sense light and dark, they cannot see color. As a result, they rely more on their other senses to get around. One super cool thing about snails, though, is that if they lose an eye they can simply grow one back! 🐌

Is your child not achieving his/her potential at school?
Is he or she reading below grade level?
Oftentimes, these struggles are associated with poor visual skills and have nothing to do with laziness or a learning disability. Bring your child in for an eye exam to rule out any visual problems. If any are detected, we'll provide effective customized vision therapy to strengthen lagging visual skills.

For all the smokers out there—here's another reason to quit.

Smoking isn't only dangerous for the lungs, but it can harm your eyes as well. Cigarette smoke breaks down the lipid layer of the tear film, which, in turn, leads to dry eye symptoms. To learn more and discover what you can do to improve the health of your eyes, contact us today!

If you haven’t flown in a while, you might have forgotten how spending time in an airplane cabin can dry your eyes out—particularly while wearing a mask against COVID-19. One way you can prevent dry eyes is by making sure your face mask fits snugly, which prevents your breath from rising upwards and drying out your eyes.

To keep your contact lenses clean and safe, always dump old solution, rinse your case out with solution (NOT WATER!) and store them in clean solution every time. This prevents any harmful bacteria from growing and spreading to your lenses.

Wearing Daily Disposable Contact Lenses | Roggy Eye Clinic

How to avoid contact lens overuse & have healthy vision.

Enjoy the benefits and comfort of a brand new, clean, crisp pair of contact lenses the very next morning. Contact lens-related infections and eye conditions that result from improper cleaning and storage are a thing of the past. Now, you can enjoy the simple pleasures of crisp, clean, comfortable vision at the start of every day.

The 18 Hour/Week Rule - Contact Lenses

Your eyes require oxygen just like a person and denying them the opportunity to breathe properly by over wearing your contact lenses can cause severe damage to your eyes. But, how much is too much when it comes to contact lens wear? To answer this question, eye care professionals have come up with a standard benchmark: If you come in anywhere less than 18 hours a week with your contact lenses out, you are over wearing your contact lenses.

When denied oxygen in this way, the eye may attempt to supply oxygen through neovascularization. This process involves the growth of new blood vessels into parts of the eye that should remain clear and unblocked for your best vision. This can seriously hinder your ability to see, and do serious long-term damage as well.
