Minnesota’s political leaders are nearing the end of the legislative session that will determine public education funding for the next two years. The state budget provides about 75 percent of funding for our public school districts, so their decisions directly affect the resources we have for students, and the contracts we are able to bargain. While Governor Walz and the Minnesota House have proposed increases in education funding, the Minnesota Senate leadership favors a package that would transfer millions of dollars to private school vouchers and lead to more education cuts and layoffs. We can affect what happens by acting now – sign the petition for full funding and join us at the Capitol this Saturday! https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/protect-our-public-schools?fbclid=IwAR3DkdGzpJItqMTdahUIwWhUSva6EFKIJmHkC4sjlTw4iDitXpN8tQ02FXI

Statement from Anoka Hennepin Education Minnesota
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Daunte Wright this afternoon. Daunte, 20, was shot and killed by a Brooklyn Center police officer over the weekend. While we know only some of the details of the tragedy today, we do know that this time the violence has hit close to our members and our students.
The educators of Anoka Hennepin Education Minnesota are here to support our educators and students this week, either in -person or online. The trauma of learning another Black man has been killed by law enforcement does not diminish just because these deaths have become so tragically familiar. Our union joins with all Minnesota educators in calling for peace and voicing our sympathy for all those suffering the loss of Daunte Wright.

Union Members, we understand that we are in another transition with MDE and MDH making some calls on going back to class in person. We'd like to remind you that we are working on your behalf with our District to make plans for the best possible transition back. Knowing that we represent you and are weighing all of the options set forth, we ask that you give us time and grace as we continue to understand the orders Gov Walz has given us. As always please continue to use the reps and the field reps as a place to ask questions. They may not know the answers either but we can compile questions that way for our district leaders.
Thank you and have a great weekend.
In Solidarity
