With the colder weather, we too often see vehicles running with the keys in the ignition. Not only is that against the law, it is also an easy opportunity for car thieves! In Minnesota, six out of ten stolen vehicles had the key inside. Car thieves don’t care. So you have to.

Thanks for coming out last night! Donations can still be made at City Hall.

We have received another allotment of CATGUARD marking kits from the MN Department of Commerce Fraud Bureau that we can distribute. This kit will mark the converter with a serial number that can be tracked back to a victim, thus being able to charge the person caught with it. We know this is not a solution but another tool to help deter converter thefts.
The kits are available in our lobby from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. NOTE: You need to bring your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) with you. This can be found in the lower driver’s side of your front windshield.
Most at risk vehicles:
Chevrolet Express, Ford Econoline, Ford F250, Honda Accord, Honda CRV, Honda Element, Honda Odyssey, Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Mitsubishi Lancer, Mitsubishi Outlander, Toyota Prius and Toyota Tundra

Since then, members or our Police Association Board of Directors have been donating the proceeds to various organizations on behalf of our officers. Earlier this month a donation was made to the Anoka County Brotherhood Council - ACBC Food Shelf. The food shelf stated out of 45,000 people they serve, 33% are from C**n Rapids and of those, 38% are children and 13% are senior citizens. Winter Parking Restrictions in Effect

The arrival of November comes the promise of winter and snow just around the corner. To prepare for the upcoming season, the winter parking ban is now in effect. These restrictions keep the streets clear for plows and help protect your car from getting piled with snow from the plows or damaged.

No street parking between 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. each night.
No street parking anytime of day or night when there is an accumulation of three inches of snow or more, until the street has been plowed from curb-to-curb.
Parking can only resume after a snowplow has gone by and the street has been thoroughly cleaned from curb-to-curb.
Winter parking restrictions are in effect from Nov. 1-April 1 annually.
If a vehicle is blocking the path of a snowplow, the vehicle owner could receive a ticket or the car could be towed.

We have received multiple calls today for people who believe they are being scammed. A male has been calling various phone numbers stating he is with the C**n Rapids Police Department. He further states the person being called has a warrant and can resolve the issue by offering payment over the phone. This is most definitely a scam. If you receive a call like this, please hang up and call 911 to make a report. When in doubt you can always call us to see if the call you are receiving is legitimate. We will never ask you to pay money over the phone to rectify a legal matter. Thank you!
