By now, most of you have seen the post from yesterday about Mani and her new guitar and lessons from Corporal Swinburnson and Corporal Tillman respectively. As you read, the deputies wanted no accolades from the gesture. However, we all said a tiny prayer when we posted it that the post would find its way to someone who could help Mani further. Thanks to all of your shares, the post found its way to James Skelton, Owner of the Conway Institute of Music. James has graciously surprised Mani today with a one year scholarship for free weekly music lessons at the Conway Institute of Music. Thank you, James! We know Mani will truly benefit from this kind gesture! All of us expect great things from you, Mani, and we cannot wait to hear you play soon!

Since the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) began, we have seen almost 43,000 small business loans totaling over $3.3 billion here in Arkansas. These funds represent thousands of jobs still in place across the state thanks to the PPP.

I am proud to share the stories of small businesses in our community who have benefited from this program, including Arkansas Destinations, Inc. owned by Jana Cohen, the Conway Institute of Music owned by James Skelton, and The Robust Olive owned by Jill Cady.

These businesses received assistance from the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC), which is dedicated to helping small businesses achieve success. If you are a small business trying to navigate this difficult time, through a PPP loan or otherwise, please reach out for further information.

Cabin fever has set in for many students in Arkansas, but one local business has found a way to help keep kids entertained while still learning and growing their skills. Today we're talking to Conway Institute of Music to learn more about virtual music lessons!

Heidi Wallace Leftwich is a member of the cast of RCT's upcoming Miscast Musical R***e. She teaches theatre at Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theatre (AACCT) and teaches voice and beginning piano at Conway Institute of Music. She is performing Jason Robert Brown's "I Can Do Better Than That" from The Last Five Years.

What began as a small music lesson studio has grown into the largest private music lesson school in Conway Arkansas with an enrollment of over 400 students. Because of this explosive growth, cutting edge teaching, and progressive music systems, Jim Skelton, owner and director of the institute, was given the prestigious award of “2017 Music Studio of the Year”. To win this award he competed against

6 other music studio United States finalists from the Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, Georgia, Illinois, and 3 music schools from Canada. When I was growing up, my mom had a hard time finding a good music teacher for me. She bounced me from teacher to teacher, trying to find one that would teach me music correctly. Even as a teenager, I thought, "there has to be a better way." I started my music school because I wanted to create an environment where moms and families could be confident that they would receive the best music education with caring, attentive teachers. I am seeing the next generation learning music and loving it and nothing makes me more proud. At Conway Institute of Music, we believe every student learns in their own way, at their own pace. That's why we have one-on-one, private lessons--so students can be matched with a teacher who will get to know their personality and learning style and teach them in the way that is best for them. We don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach. We tailor each lesson to the student, whether they are 5 or 55 years old. Our teachers all have warm personalities, are encouraging, and know how to teach in a fun way that captures the attention of their students. We know that learning music is a life-long process, and that's why we use the Musical Ladder program--to make small goals more reachable. We want to celebrate the journey along the way! The students love the bracelets and trophies...and so do the parents! With recitals twice a year, our students get to showcase what they have been learning and working on. It's a great time to hear various musical styles and instruments and enjoy the wonderful music our students are learning! As parents, we understand how busy families are! That's why we are open 6 days a week, as early as 9am and as late at 8:30pm. We want to provide families with lots of options, so they don't have to choose between sports or music or other activities. Students can change their lesson time when needed--our staff wants to help you fit music lessons into your life. Our desk staff is always on site to help our families and teachers—so we can provide a top-notch experience at all times. We love helping beginners get started on their musical journey. We believe in music and we believe in education. We are so honored to serve the central Arkansas community!
