I had the pleasure of seeing Houston Grand Opera's gorgeous The Marriage of Figaro (W.A. Mozart) opening night. Soprano Lauren Snouffer was a standout as Cherubino.
How tragic that Texas bills H.B. 643 and H.B. 708 would ban and criminalize this production and her performance with its sloppily worded verbiage outlawing “a performance in which a performer exhibits a gender identity that is different than the performer’s gender assigned at birth using clothing, makeup, or other physical markers and sings, lip syncs, dances, or otherwise performs before an audience for entertainment.”
