Save Energy and Money with simple automations.
Vacancy Sensors and what they do.
• Automatically turns lights off when room is unoccupied.. • Ambient light levels detected by the sensor can adjust dimmer intensity levels automatically
• Accurate daylight harvesting provided by proportional daylight control in Photocell
• Built in daylight sensor turns off lights when sufficient amounts of natural daylight is available
Vacancy sensor will determine whether your controlled lighting and/or appliances are needed based on the lack of movement in a room and ambient light levels provided by natural sunlight. Movement is detected by recognizing heat signatures created by people moving across the sensors field of view. The device, when properly programmed, will turn off up to ten modules when a room is unoccupied for the specified amount of time. Up to three sensors can be programmed to each switch for maximum coverage.
Information gathered by the photopic sensor is used for transmitted commands, appropriately adjusting lighting levels remotely as daylight increases or decreases. Another common use for this vacancy sensor is to switch On/Off a plug-in (Floor) fans or portable cooling units. As heat from the sun’s light becomes more or less intense throughout the day, your needs to circulate or cool the indoor air will change. Controlling Lights and devices like plug-in fans can and will save money by reducing the amount of wasted energy in your home. Convenience, increased quality of life, energy savings, and simple installation make vacany sensors a great addition to your automated lighting and appliance control system.
Why Have Networked Appliances?
To answer the “why” question, below are some networked appliances and their possible applications.
Refrigerators
■When you are at the grocery shopping, you can use your PDA phone to check the contents of your fridge.
■Don’t know what to cook for dinner? Have the refrigerator scan the items in the fridge and suggest some cooking ideas. The internet connectivity will be used for downloading and updating its receipts.
■Leave notes and message reminders to family members.
■Watch streaming video using the built-in LCD screen.
■Surf the web using the built-in LCD screen.
■Listen to internet radio or music streaming from your HTPC.
■Download receipts and display them on the built-in LCD screen.
■Have the fridge automatically contact your local grocery store when you run out of a food item. The grocery store can then deliver that item to you. (… OK, this is way off in the future, but it is coming).
Micowaves
■Scan in items like frozen dinners or popcorn to get the most optimum cook time. The microwave could use the internet to download and update its list of food items.
■Download receipts.
■Use the networked connectivity to send a message to your PDA phone or computer when it’s done cooking.
■Communicate with smart refrigerators and suggest recipes based on what items are in the refrigerator.
■Automatically programs the clock (no more blinking lights when the power goes out).
Depending on the lengths to which you want to go to automate your house, there are a number of different systems you can utilize. For instance, there are simple systems that regulate the functions of different appliances and outdoor equipment such as an automated thermostat that turns on your furnace and an electronic/timer operated automatic sprinkler system. There are also more sophisticated systems that can do things like illuminating a path to the bathroom with the touch of a button, turning the volume of the television or radio up or down as you walk into the room, or adjusting the amount of lighting as you walk through the doorway. Some systems can also be installed in parts, which means you may start with lighting control and then add additional control modules and advanced features as you go.
