January is Radon Action Month. Did you know that radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers and causes nearly 21,000 deaths each year in the US? Radon levels tend to spike in the winter months. Licking county is the worst county in Ohio for radon with about 75% of homes having an indoor radon level above the EPA limit (4 pCi/L). So if you haven't had your home tested or haven't had it tested in the last few years (especially during winter), contact Bear Property Inspections to schedule a professional radon test today.

Quick PSA: It’s getting much colder at night (we have a frost warning here in Granville tonight) so be sure to unhook your hoses from your exterior hose bibs. This can help prevent frozen and broken pipes. If the hoses are difficult to unscrew from the hose bib, use a pair of channel lock pliers (placing a rag in the jaws of the pliers can prevent damage to the end of the hose).

Did you know that radon causes around 21,000 deaths each year due to lung cancer?
The prevalence of radon in Ohio is especially high with 53 of Ohio’s 88 counties considered EPA Zone 1. These are areas with the highest potential for radon exposure and a predicted average indoor radon level greater than 4 pCi/L. Approximately 50% of all homes tested every year in Ohio have elevated levels of indoor radon. Licking county homes’ average radon level is astronomical with an average above 8.0 pCi/L, double the action level set by the EPA! So if you haven’t had your home tested, please contact Bear Property Inspections to schedule a professional radon test today!
