4 Life Lessons From Running 65 Miles in 65 Hours Running 65 miles in 65 hours taught me that with rhythm, consistency, recovery, purpose, and community, the impossible becomes possible.

Today, I'm posting a bit of a different take on my usual post on this Tuesday.
𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘦. 🫶

Since the early 1950's, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been IDS'ing for a cure for CF.
𝟭𝟵𝟴𝟵: The CFTR gene, which causes cystic fibrosis, was discovered by a team of scientists led by Francis Collins working at the University of Michigan. The discovery was made using a technique called positional cloning, which involved using genetic linkage analysis to pinpoint the gene's location on chromosome 7.
Yes, they got to the 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲, and have been attacking this root cause ever since!
They're not just treating the 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀 - 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲!
𝘚𝘦𝘦 ... 𝘐𝘋𝘚'𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘚𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺. 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺. EOS Worldwide
𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟯: The FDA approved Pulmozyme, the first drug developed specifically for CF. It helps thin the thick mucus in the lungs.
𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟬: Universal newborn screening for CF was instituted in all 50 U.S. states, allowing for earlier diagnosis and more immediate care that improves growth and lung health.
𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟮 (Kalydeco): The FDA approved ivacaftor (Kalydeco), the first drug to treat the underlying cause of CF.
𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟱 (Orkambi): A combination of lumacaftor and ivacaftor (Orkambi) was approved for patients homozygous for the F508del mutation.
𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟵 (Trikafta): A highly effective triple-combination modulator, elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (Trikafta), was approved for people with at least one copy of the F508del mutation.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁?
Gene therapy and gene editing: Approaches using viral and non-viral vectors are currently in clinical trials. These therapies aim to deliver a functional copy of the CFTR gene to lung cells or use gene-editing tools like CRISPR to correct the faulty gene.

That's traction! 💪

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's "Path to a Cure" initiative is funding diverse approaches to accelerate new treatments for all CF mutations, with the ultimate goal of a cure.

In 1989, when the defective gene that causes CF was discovered, Dr. Collins and his team announced that the path to cure would not be in a straight line, and in fact would be a mountain to climb.

We're on that mountain right now.
And as an uncle to two nieces born with CF, I'm more determined than ever to get us to the summit.

They are rejecting the current version of themselves - 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 - for a future version of themselves to get them where they want to go.

These are leaders who are growth-oriented.
They despise complacency.
They fear the status quo more than change itself.
They are humble, yet competitive.
They are either growing or dying.
Their strength is in asking for and receiving help.

It's a privilege and a great responsibility to be on this journey with them.🙏
