Sunset in Panguma

In the quiet town of Panguma, I met a priest at the St Kizito's Roman Catholic Church whose presence spoke louder than words. Beneath a single hanging light, his hands rested close to his chest, his robe carrying symbols of sacrifice, his eyes carrying years of prayer.

He is more tha a priest or a preacher. He is the one people run to when grief has no language, when joy needs sanctifying, when doubt creeps in quietly at night. He walks with farmers before harvest, sits with widows in their silence, guides children toward purpose, and reminds the weary that they are not alone.

His presence is constant, stitched into the rhythm of daily life, into births, marriages, deaths, and healing.

In remote corners of Sierra Leone, where faith lives not in grand buildings, but in a humble servant like Father Kombay who hold entire communities together.

WAM Collegiate School @ 115

Through my lens today, the Thanksgiving march of West African Methodist Collegiate School revealed a powerful blend of history, faith, and pride in motion.

It was fun to capture the school colours as they glowed in the afternoon light. Students, staff, band members, alumni and others moved in disciplined formation as the band’s steady rhythms guided the procession through the streets of Freetown.

The march forms a central part of Collegiate School’s (as commonly called) 115th Annual Thanksgiving Celebration, a longstanding tradition that brings together generations of the school's community in celebration, gratitude and reflection.

Founded in 1911 by the Methodist Church, WAM Collegiate School remains one of Sierra Leone’s enduring mission institutions, grounded in Christian values, discipline, and academic excellence.
