🌸clarify your hair ideally less than two days prior to your appointment

🌸don’t be in a rush — I always ask if we have any time limits but please remember, good things take time!

🌸bring inspo photos if we are switching things up — know what you do or don’t like about your current hair

🌸be open to recommendations + have realistic expectations — I am not a magician although I try my best to always deliver exactly what you want

🌸while my mini fridge + snack bin are always stocked — feel free to bring something to sip on or snack on, especially if we are doing a total makeover

To be completely honest— I made the jump early, I had only been licensed for about 18 months + definitely didn’t have much of an established clientele but I just knew this was where I was meant to be. I remember having a week where I only had a $30 hair cut on my schedule and my weekly rent which was 10x that was coming out at the end of the week regardless. Nonetheless I took a bet on myself + it sure has paid off.

I was told being an independent stylist renting a studio was lonely, that I wouldn’t have any friends or anyone to bounce ideas off of. I was told I wouldn’t be successful if I didn’t work nights and weekends. I was told so many things that I immediately proved to be wrong.

I found my home with when I went independent. I rent in a space with 30+ other artists who many of us are/were educators for big brands. Many of us are constantly bopping in + out of each other’s studios helping each other whether it’s with formulation or business strategies + beyond.

This June marks 6 years since I took a chance on myself. My clientele has expanded to 300+ beautiful babes + my booking site has been viewed over 40k times. I have steadily climbed in profits by 10-15% year after year and I am no where near finished. I get to choose who I want to work on + what I want to do. I have the luxury of saying “no” to projects that do not align with my ideal clientele. I get to spend everyday making women see their true beauty within while creating art that they get to wear every single day. How blessed am I?!

To all the younger girlies just starting out— chase your dreams + don’t look back. You can + you will achieve anything you set your mind out to do. I believe in you 😊

How did you know where you wanted to work after school? I’m so glad you asked, bestie! 💖

When I was in hair school very early on I had heard about this super cool salon downtown that was known for their incredible fantasy colors + edgy haircuts. I was told that they only hired stylists with like 10+ years of experience… now that was a bit of a stretch but the talent was + still is oozing from this place! So I did what any normal girly would do + I followed the entire team on social media + became even more in love with the salon + their work.

About a month before graduation I scheduled a color consultation with the salon manager + showed up with my résumé. I sat down in her chair + said I’m actually not here to talk about color, I’m here to talk about a job. We promptly went out back of the salon + sat in the sun + talked about all things involving the salon. It just so happened that not only did she have a cancellation after my appointment, the owner of the salon happened to also have some free time to chat. So what was supposed to be a 15 minute color consultation turned into a 3+ hour conversation + interview. The vibes were there, we all felt it — now all that was left was my technical interview.

I performed a balayage, a long haircut + a short haircut. I was so nervous. I remember asking if there was any chance that they could let me know if I got the job or not before I went off to a music festival in New Orleans for Halloween. They called the day I was leaving, I got the job + I celebrated all week on Bourbon Street. All that was left to do was graduate + get my license.

I will forever be thankful to my first salon home for taking a chance on me + believing in me! Two of my biggest mentors who may or may not realize just how much of an impact they had on my career, + I would just watch these two work + soak it all up like a sponge. Their talent is unmatched + I will be forever grateful to have studied under them.

This is definitely a topic that comes up with every client at some point and honestly I love it. Short answer: I never wanted to do hair. Long answer: 👇🏼

When I was 21 I was bartending at The Rusty Bucket in New Albany. I had some college under my belt from BGSU + OSU Mansfield but at the time I was on a break from school. Previously I thought I wanted to do something in the criminal law world so that was what all of my schooling was for thus far.

One of my favorite coworkers, Stacy, who I totally looked up to randomly asked me if I ever thought about doing hair because I reminded her of her friend who owned a salon in Florida. That random thought changed the trajectory of my life.

Late 2015 I toured Paul Mitchell the School, Columbus and immediately felt the vibes. I could see myself in them. To be noted though, at this point I had never even had a highlight. I didn’t know one thing about color and honestly I still drove up to Mansfield once or twice a year for a haircut from an old friend of mine, Katie. I remember talking to Katie about hairschool and working as a hairstylist and I was sold.

I enrolled at January 2016. I stocked my closet with black, as that’s all we are allowed to wear, and I walked into school with the most naturally beautiful, untouched, long blonde hair. I was always the guinea pig for braids and styles and I loved it.

At this time I was in school 5 days a week, 9-4:30 Tuesday - Saturday while I also worked as a server and bartender at Kona Grill. I left school everyday and drove right to work clocking in at 5, closing the restaurant by 11 or 12 and getting up to do it all again the next day. I only had Mondays off that year, but that was enough. I was 22, living on my own, supporting my own dreams and luckily had enough energy to pull 70+ hour weeks all the way until graduation late November.

While in school I learned so much about hair and about myself, I made life long friends and I even found my dream salon home— but that’s a story for next time. 🫶🏼
