One Cake Closer
Welcome to my journey through this thing called life. My name is Liz Bigda. I am a stay at home, homeschool mom, to three children, and married to an Army man.
One Cake Closer started as our family’s journey to adoption, one cake at a time. But my health, unfortunately, got in the way. We will still be adopting, the process will just take a lot longer than we had hoped, and it will look a lot different than what we had originally planned. Until then, I will be blogging about our journey with One Cake Closer, which has many surprises for us all in the fut

It’s been a little over a year since my first seizure, and what a year it has been! Lyme and co-infection, a failed treatment, many respiratory infections, dealing with the medical field, and still the unknown. The year hasn’t been all bad though. We have shared a lot of treasured family time, we have celebrated birthdays and holidays, we have been able to see family that live far away more often, I have been able to watch a lot of television (I really like T.V.:), and most importantly God has showed His love for me in countless ways. I don't make New Year resolutions, but I am hoping for improvements in my health this year. Did you make a resolution for the New Year?

No one is prepared to be sick. I wasn’t prepared for what happened to me 10 months ago. At first, well, once I got past the terror of thinking I was going to die, I had a great attitude. But month after month, with little to no improvement, my attitude has changed. I have learned a lot about illness. When I think of someone being sick, I think mostly of that person and his or her struggle. [ 958 more words ]

Tonight @ 8:30 p.m. EDT, we are having an online LuLaRoe fundraiser for Epworth Children's Home. Last year we baked a birthday cake for each child that was living under their care, which totaled around 115 children. This year since Liz has been so sick we decided to raise money for them through LuLaRoe. Come check out our wares at the link below:

Let's try to look into our hearts this Halloween. The child trick or treating in your neighborhood that doesn't live near by, may live in a neighborhood that isn't safe enough to trick or treat in. That teenager that rings your doorbell, may never have had the opportunity to trick or treat when it was "age appropriate". The child that stops by your house too late, may have a single working mother that couldn't get the child out early enough. [ 73 more words ]

The child without a costume, may have sensory sensitivities that make it too difficult to dress up. The child that is pushing and shoving may have not been taught how to "wait in line, one at a time". Let's help these children create fond memories that they can look back on one day, and maybe even share with children of their own. Happy Halloween!

"Through the highs and lows, up and down we go" I remember listening to this song when I was participating in a bible study with a woman thankfully recovering from breast cancer (thankfully for the recovering part). I always wanted to cry when I heard it, because it made me think of her husband always being there for her, and all that they must be going through. Now I listen to it, and think of my incredible husband who is working so hard to do it all. He can't always be there when I open my eyes, but he tries his hardest to be. I heart this song, and I love my Snookums with all my heart.
