There are many reasons people visit Garman Sculpture Works. We have had numerous marriage proposals in our gallery. Within minutes of her saying, “YES!”, we make the mold on the newly engaged couples hand joined together with her new ring on, freezing that precious moment in time for their family. Some clients bring their critically ill family member because they want to create a deeply meaningful family heirloom with their hands bonded together before their loved one is gone. These appointments are very emotional for everyone involved and very often, there’s not a dry eye in the room. These are really the most fulfilling sculptures that we create. From birth to death, we capture the true essence of the human bond and the celebration of life, of love and even loss. South Florida Artist Sean Garman was born Miami, FL in 1968. Sean grew up in a very creative family. His father, Harry Garman would teach Sean how to make things using many different kinds of tools and materials. “My father was the most amazing man I ever knew. He taught himself drafting, blueprinting, machining, woodworking, gunsmithing, welding and the list goes on and on. My Uncle Michael was a world-renowned sculptor who I worked for in my late teens. I learned so much from these guys! They spurred my imagination and instilled a passion within me for developing and creating things.”
In his early 20’s Sean started a little manufacturing company called Ditto Productions. “Ditto was an amazing experience for me. We developed and mass-produced custom products for artists and companies from all over the country and shipped products world-wide. We would sketch ideas for companies and when the idea was approved, my sculptors would create the original piece. I would then make the molds necessary to produce the product in mass quantities. It was always something new and different which kept it exciting. It really wasn’t like work at all. I loved it and that stayed with me for the rest of my life.”
Well as we all know, life has its own plan for us and after 10 years and some regrettable business decisions, Sean sold the company and went into the corporate world. “Sure, I have regrets, but I also feel that things happen for a reason. I learned a lot during my years in a corporate environment. I think it was all just preparation for my next endeavor. I always missed the art world so in 2015 I started dabbling in it again. I began making molds and producing products for a few local companies here in South Florida which helped me to develop the concept for my new company. I finally found what I want to do for the rest of my life! Garman Sculpture Works was born.”
