EVOLUTION OF HIGHLIGHTS

Top left: "THE CAP" a.k.a. "Getting a frost"
Who else remembers the feeling of being stabbed with the hook repetitively all over your scalp? 🙋🏼 And let's not forget trying to remove the cap from your super tangled over bleached hair when it was time to shampoo. 😩

Top right: Foils entered the scene in the 90's but really took off in the late 90's early 2000's. Although the the ex*****on has evolved, foils are a classic look that have stayed around til the present. This has varied with placement, size of the weave, and tones used. It used to be chunky, striped, or heavily bleached.
Today a stylist will use a variation of a super fine weave with some thicker weaves and use more natural tones to accomplish a softer more natural look.

The balayage technique had been around for quite some time, especially in Europe. However, it didn't really hit mainstream US salons until the super sunkissed look of Gisele Bündchen wowed us with her long lightened locks on the runway. The technique gained momentum 7-8 years ago, but thanks to Pinterest and other social media avenues, "balayage" has become the hottest trend in hair.

With Balayage expect to spend more time in the chair as it requires a steady hand and an artistic eye. It also will cost you more than a foiled highlight because the process is more tedious and labor intensive. Expect to invest in a good color safe shampoo and conditioner. While the cost may be more upfront, the payout is huge! Less visits to the salon in the long run, and super glamorous locks to show off.

So, what exactly is Balayage and why do we love it?

What is "balayage"?
Balayage is a TECHNIQUE used by stylists to create a soft sun-kissed look. It is accomplished by sweeping lightener onto the hair without the use of foils.
