The St Fidelis Street Outreach Ministry

Jesus said to his Disciples “ I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have
loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my
disciple, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
This month we would like to offer special thanks to Rev. Michael F. Falce and the parish of Our
Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Ridgewood for their gracious and generous donation of food to
our Outreach. It takes a village . . . . .and more to do this holy work!!

On Saturday May 2, 2026, the Tablet and NET TV came to visit our monthly Street Outreach
Ministry. We were so proud to show them the work we do (in partnership with our neighboring
parishes), distributing food, clothing, hygienic products and other items on the First Saturday of
every month. We were also very proud to tell them about our work helping the homeless get off
the street into long term sustainable housing. This is the heart and soul of our Ministry!!

With so many volunteers like Maribel Perez (featured in both the Tablet and NET TV’s
coverage) and Deacon Frank Kazlausky (whom you see leading prayer on NET TV before we
open the lines for food distribution) our Street Outreach grew into a Ministry we are deeply
proud of. You can find the online links to this coverage at https://netny.tv/episodes/currents/college-point-street-outreach/ and https://thetablet.org/college-point-queens-st-fidelis-street-outreach-ministry/

Our Outreach takes place the first Saturday of each month (rain or shine) from 8:30 a.m. to as
long as supplies last, on the corner of 14th Avenue and College Point Boulevard, across from the
Poppenhusen Library. We offer free food, clothing, hygienic supplies and other items to all in
need. In between First Saturdays we regularly visit with the street homeless and housing insecure in College Point and beyond and assist them with their need for housing. We have helped many people make the transition from homeless or housing insecure to long term stable housing.

“He said to them in reply, “Whoever has two tunics should share with the person who has
none. And whoever has food should do likewise.” (Luke 3:11)
This month we were delighted and honored to have Maribel Perez, Life Scout in All Girls Scout Troop 153 G of BSA of St Anastasia Douglaston NY and ten of her Sister Scouts and Scout Master, distribute hygienic products which Maribel had collected during a months long project in which she spoke at Masses in several parishes the Diocese. Maribel, who is sixteen years old, has been a volunteer in our Street Outreach along with her mother Cecilia Perez and Grandmother Lupe Madrid. We are so proud of and grateful to Maribel who stands as a true model of Gospel charity and service for young people in the Church.

We also had to bid a very fond and extremely grateful farewell to long time volunteer Deacon
Frank Kazlausky, aka, “Deacon Frankfurter” as he and his family relocate to the Carolinas to be near their grandchildren. Our prayers, gratitude and love go with you Deacon Frank!!

¡¡Nuestras oraciones, gratitud y amor van contigo, Deacon Frank!!
