Growing up in the Philippines where skin color is the basis of your beauty only to realize that I must have been born in the wrong geography. People here in the US pay thousands of $$$ to get tan and I was so insecure with mine. Wanting to be accepted, wanting to be called my pretty. But now, I do not give a - - - .. Now I am embracing it like no other. This is me. The real me. No whitening lotion, no whitening soap. Kay di man japon mogana.

One of the biggest struggles for Filipinos living abroad is when cravings come and there was nowhere to go to buy it, they are forced to learn. Growing up and being one of the youngest, I pretty much just wait till I was being fed. When I helped, I was the “ chopping veggies “ person or the “dishwasher” person. When I moved here in the US more than 16 years ago, I definitely struggled a lot. Not only did I miss my country but I also missed the food, desserts, breads. Over the years, I learned how to cook. I am no expert at it but I sure do learn how to satisfy my cravings. Let’s have some Torta for today cause it’s day is a win for me.
