Sarah Sandison β€˜23 is a world politics and Russian studies double major who went to Kyiv, Ukraine in Fall 2022. She lived with a host family who did not speak English, but they made her feel right at home and they are still keeping in touch. During her time there, she took Russian language classes and her favorite class was the identity lecture, which taught about ethnic groups of former countries. Her academic focus has been greatly impacted by the war, and she has centered her thesis on the nationalism of Ukrainians. Sarah enjoyed traveling, and got to visit Chernobyl, which had a nuclear meltdown and left an abandoned, radioactive city, as well as Odesa, a beautiful city that borders the Black Sea. She also got to visit Georgia, Armenia, and Moldova!

Sarah Sandison β€˜23 is a world politics and Russian studies double major who studied abroad in Kyiv, Ukraine in Fall 2022. She went through the Identity and Conflict in Post Soviet Space program. She lived with a host family, which made her feel right at home, and she still keeps in touch with them. Sarah took Russian language classes as well as her favorite class, the identity lecture, where she learned about different ethnic groups of former countries. Because of the war, she has been impacted tremendously in her academic focus. For her thesis, she is questioning individuals from Ukraine about their viewpoints on nationalism and symbols they feel strongly about. During her time traveling, she loved visited Odesa which borders the Black Sea, and also enjoyed traveling to Armenia, Moldova and Georgia. She also toured an abandoned city which had a nuclear meltdown in the 1980s, which was an incredible yet eerie experience!

Michael Scoleri β€˜24 went to St. Andrews, Scotland in Fall 2022. IFSA in Scotland was a perfect program that accommodated his physics and computer science double major, and he enjoyed his astronomy class the most because he was able to see the stars very clearly due to the little light pollution. He and some of his Hamilton friends frequently played golf, especially because it originated in St. Andrews. His favorite place was Swilcan Bridge, a historical landmark in St. Andrew’s located on a golf course. He also liked visiting Loch Ness, Sterling Castle, and Glen Cove, a filming scene for the tv show Outlander. Michael encourages anyone studying abroad to not be afraid to travel, because he was presented with so many opportunities in both Scotland and other European countries that he is grateful to have experienced, such as going to Germany for Oktoberfest!

Emily Benson β€˜23 is an environmental studies major and an art and French minor, and she spent a semester in the Caribbean Sea! She went through the SEA education association, where she spent 4 weeks in the classroom in Boston, and then the rest of the semester on the ship. Her research focused on how stony coral tissue loss disease impacts the coral reef fish population. Emily never snorkeled before, and she developed such a strong passion for it that she is considering spending another semester in the SEA program as a worker. Her favorite memory was when the ship anchored at Martinique and the island had a rainbow over it, and it was so picturesque. Her crew-mates and her saw dolphins and whales, and were able to jump off the bow and swim!

Anna Sakamoto β€˜23 is an Environmental studies major and a Japanese minor, and she went to London, England. Ever since she was a child it was her dream to travel to London, and she applied to study internationally there through the Arcadia Abroad program. She took classes at the SOAS, University of London, and her favorite class focused on art culture and commodification. She loved going to museums to look at the amazing galleries and fashion exhibitions, as well as cooking and eating her own food! Outside of the city, Anna especially loved her weekend trip visiting the Roman Baths for its historical important and beauty.
