Dear Whitehall Farms! Thank you to Jeff for guiding us through a wonderful physically distanced outdoor Birthday Party! Amazing! We loved the massive slingshot, co****le, endless wagon rides, visiting farm animals, and the Whitehall Farms setting made the sunset even more amazing! Kids in attendance all had a blast. Wonderful memories for all. Thank you, thank you! We can't wait for future events hosted at Whitehall Farms!!

Are there any changes or options for the Open House if there’s poor weather? They’re calling for rain on the 24th ☹️
Grilled mixed greens (beets, chard, kale) with cider brown sugar vinagerette and grill-roasted beets.
Made this delicious Mediterranean inspired salad from Whitehall Farm Market produce! Cucumber, tomato, and young kale, with a boost from the Fermented Pig's Greek sausage. The pearled couscous and tzatziki dressing may have been sourced elsewhere but together this meal turned out extra tasty!

Can't wait to pick up my BBQ later to finish setting up my meals for the week!

Hello everybody,

Thank you to everybody that bought our trees, which are all gone.

This was a message left from our website message form:

“Those eggs are the BOMB!
When my family bought a beautiful Christmas tree at the farm, the wonderful owners were present and asked us to try their farm-fresh eggs. We did. They were delicious! Better than we could imagine! Thank you for being our local source of farm-fresh food!”

These kind words make it all worth it. Not the wonderful owners part (Nadine certainly is), although that’s nice to hear. It’s all about providing better tasting and healthy food.

Cheers,

Photos from Whitehall Farms LLC's post 12/02/2021

Hello everybody,

The Whitehall Farm egg yoke knew it was destined to be an over- easy fried egg and tried to hide in plain sight in the orange juice. To no avail. In the other photo (bad lighting), Whitehall Farm eggs surround another farm’s non-GMO egg. Our animal’s food determines what you end up with. The combination of non-GMO feed, access to grass and bugs (except in winter), occasional produce (pumpkins, tomatoes, greens) and the organic mineral supplement that we add to our layer’s feed gives you the dark orange yoke. Which egg do you think tastes better? Our new batch of hens is starting to lay and, with our older flock, we will soon have eggs coming out of our ears.

Christmas tree sales were brisk last weekend and we’ll probably run out Saturday. We have Blue ribbon 5’/6’ and 6’/7’s left, along with a handful of Orange ribbon 7’/8’s. We also have decorated wreathes.

Cheers,
Jeff

**Christmas tree sales**
Our costs have gone up again (truck rental, tree costs, etc.), so there are price increases again. The trees are on sale now in the Market parking lot and are available for purchase during normal business hours.

Parking:
- Enter at the market
- We are going to block off every other parking space in our lot to make it easier to social distance and we will hold cars until a parking spot opens.
- The mad rush will wax and wane, so there will be less busy times even in the first weekend.

Hello Everybody,

INFLATION

Who were the geniuses who decided food and fuels shouldn’t be included in the “core” (or fake) inflation number? Almost everything farmers buy or use involves fuels. Diesel to power the tractors, to fuel the delivery and long haul trucks, natural gas to dry the ingredients used for our non-GMO feeds, etc. I checked the costs of our different feeds from Jan last year to now: chicken feed- $18.04 to $20.44 per fifty pound bag, a 14 percent increase. Hog feed went from $516 a ton to $620.50 per ton, a 20 percent increase. And it will get much worse. We will try to hold our prices down as best we can. Speaking of prices…..
It is Christmas tree season. If you have been listening or watching the news this fall, you will know the US has a bad tree shortage this year that will last either one or two more years. We were able to get almost as many as we sold last year, including some #2s, but didn’t get any 9’ trees at all. We are trying to find some blue ribbon trees from other sources, but are not optimistic. If you are a 9 foot tree buyer, I would suggest trying Meadows Farms. Everybody else, we will start selling at 9AM Friday the day after Thanksgiving. And yes, the prices went up.

Cheers,
Jeff

Number 5 non-livestock guarding livestock guard dog
Hello Everybody,
My first rescued Great Pyrenees was Dirty Boogie Dandy Lion (Boogie) in 1978. He was the offspring of a national champion, but due to having a third dew claw, he had no show value and the lady who owned him thought he was potentially vicious. While he had an issue with uniforms, he was a 135 pound gentle giant. We have adopted four more of the big hairy beasts since. We adopt from the Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue in Richmond, with the pictured knuckle headed Polar Bear being the latest. Months before we had to let our beloved Gadston go this summer, I had been reading Polar’s story. He spent the first year of his life living in an apartment, then then 9 months at AGPR. AGPR is the best run rescue in the state, at least, but it’s a rescue. He’s a beautiful boy who is still very much a 100 pound puppy. He practices his prey drive on our smaller dogs, who seem to like the roughhousing- for a minute. He’s a quick learner, incredibly sweet, and I have no doubt he will grow up to be gentle giant #5. If you can, adopt a dog- they always listen to you:)
