Introducing the #WeRRediculious litter… late! I hand raised these babies and took a while to photograph them for a couple of reasons: first I was super busy, second I wanted to leave them alone to learn to do hamster stuff (like sleep during the day) as well as to be able to evaluate their natural temperaments.

This is Rumpus. As tiny babies he and his siblings were up all day making such a racket that it involved some awkward explanations in Zoom meetings from the next room. As a bigger baby he’s a floppy handful of fuzz ball. He’s SERIOUSLY going through an awkward stage typical of this line where he looks like a pinheaded with whacky proportions but, like his parents, he’ll grow into his features and he’s a delightful companion and hopefully make babies as sweet as he is at Poppy Bee Hamstery.
My baby Ms Fe,,smdh she thinks everytime I come in the room it pumpkin seed day,,,,
Meet the #pastapups!

This is Spaghetti! He’s a dove color boy who’ll be moving to Poppy Bee Hamstery.

P.S. He’s a tad greasy in the pictures because he got super friendly with the pasta!
How do I get started with ethical breeding? I don't want to do anything damaging & don't know where to start in my research, all I can find is "talk to an experienced breeder".
Just found your page, super excited about queen bees new pups! Recently lost my Syrian at the age of 4. And I’m hoping to find a new younger hammie to spoil and love forever!
My new hamsters have been in quarantine for several weeks and I’m now starting to handle them and get to know them a bit.

This is Crow from Poppy Bee Hamstery. He’s an absolute sweet smooshy doll who’s in for the glamorous life of a primo stud!
It’s happened! 9 hamsters have arrived from their cross country drive. I’ll be slowly introducing them (they’re in quarantine so no fancy photos).

A quick hello for Poppy Bee Hamstery ‘s Crow! He doesn’t need a nap to recover from his drive from Virginia. He’s ready to visit and eat cookies!
Happy Fall, y’all! Titania says hello.
New friend, who dis?! We have new little buddies who will be joining SBH once they finish their 2-3wk quarantine! Where did they come from? Well…

Earlier this week, 103 pedigree hamsters packed their bags and flew to Canada! All 103 hammies arrived safe and sound on Wednesday and I picked them up from the airport and drove them to our quarantine house. Then, the sorting began! While Canada was the final destination for 13 of those hamsters (not all mine!!! And some had to go to Vancouver), the rest still had some travelling to do.

Seven beautiful hammies moseyed their way down to Oregon to live with Hubba-Hubba Hamstery. Sixteen lovely friends went to California to join the Cheeks and Squeaks Hamsters and Happy Paws Hamsters team! I loved giving all their babies kisses and love before they went. It was incredibly exciting to see so many well bred hamsters 😍.

Lastly, 68 hammies travelled in Lucille the Hamster Mobile (my car!) on Thursday. 3 of those will eventually go to Poppy Bee Hamstery, 6 will go to Nantucket Hamstery, and the rest will be staying with Holmden Hill Haven. Of those hamsters, there are several BEAUTIFUL purebred dwarfs, and my new favourite gene - dark grey!

I also got three new hamsters of my own who will join SBH once their quarantine is done. The first is this stunning young lad, a beautiful golden Rex with the most amazing type and colour! He was born on February 22, in the Netherlands. He has such a wonderful laid back temperament too.

As some of you know, I’ve been dying for rex for ages. We did have Ty and Abbi (rex and rex carrier) however both had extensive health problems and we opted not to incorporate those lines. The other rex in North America are wonderful, but are from rust (bb) lines and therefore cannot be used in the SBH lines. The only option for rex for me was from Europe, and I’m so incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to not only include some show type hamsters in my lines but also rex!

Hamdad is a huge golden fan too, so he’s absolutely perfect for us. He doesn’t have a name yet though, as I promised Hamdad he could name him. He just hasn’t had a chance to meet him yet!

We are Syrian hamster breeders in Clifton, Virginia. Our goal is to promote interest in Syrian hamsters and appropriate hamster care. Please check out our website: https://poppybeehamstery.com

Granny’s crew, just spotted a nicely marked yellow boy!

01/12/2022

Introducing Granny’s litter! Goldens, blacks, and tortoiseshells in both colors, all long haired. Granny was bred with our rust boy Oscar from Hubba Hubba Hamstery. I was hoping Granny carried rust, but that appears unlikely 😅. This litter should really lock in nice type and hopefully temperament too!

Bluebell update! She finished a two week course of antibiotics and a one week course of anti inflammatory meds. She seems to be doing a bit better. She is definitely active and alert. I’d like for her to put on a bit of weight so that’s my current focus. Thanks for all the well wishes!

01/09/2022

Introducing Torchic! Torchic was raised @pearl_hamletrys_hamsters and I'm absolutely in love with her. She is a cinnamon umbrous banded short haired. I have nicknamed her "Trip". She is sweet, friendly and very curious.

If you haven't already, give @pearl_hamletrys_hamsters a follow on Instagram and Facebook. We work very closely with them, they have our lines and @hubbahubbahamstery lines too!

Pearl Hamletry recently had a 16 pup silver grey litter 😱❤️. Their wait list is short at the moment so now is the right time to join if you are looking for a new hamster friend! Check out their application process via their website!

Gemini really wanted out tonight, i think he was interested in meeting hamster girlfriends. Someday Gemini!

01/06/2022

Juliette from @hubbahubbahamstery and Sir Gregory from Nantucket Hamstery made a beautiful litter! We have golden, rust, silver grey, and silver beige (which is a combination of rust and silver grey).

01/04/2022

Kahlo’s fluffies! These guys are being weaned soon!

Yvette has also been moved to her new enclosure, a 40 gallon breeder tank. I'm keeping her bedding level a bit low to start as she settles in but plan to add more inches in the next month. She adores not having to share a wheel! 😆

A great post from @ontariohamsters about wet tail. There is so much misinformation about wet tail, including cause and treatment. Your hamster benefits from fresh veggies in their diet and it will NOT cause wet tail! Please follow @ontariohamsters for excellent science based information on hamster care!

Elf is settling into her new home! This is a sterilite 50 gallon bin with a mesh lid. I'm not sure just yet if we will be breeding Elf as she is naturally timid, but she is trusting me a bit at a time and she is such a joy to watch. We do have possible lovely sweet boys to pair her with if we decide to go that route!

12/31/2021

Kahlo's pups are so adorable. We did sadly lose one for unknown reasons. The other seven look robust and healthy so I am feeling optimistic.

12/31/2021

Mrs. Peacock is also in her new enclosure!

Wadsworth just moved into his father Boris's old enclosure. Boris moved to his retirement home the other day. Boris has always been one of my most docile and even tempered boys and Wadsworth reminds me of him.

Just two hours before Granny started giving birth. Due dates are always a bit nerve wracking. I'm happy to say Granny has a small pile of pups and is actively birthing more. I watched her move a straggler back to the nest. My heart is full!

In other good news, Bluebell's father Minky is visiting to be bred! I'm so very excited to have Minky pups again!

12/29/2021

Bluebell is doing better, but I'm still in that place of questioning every move she makes. She thankfully loves her antibiotics but she is getting a bit tired of the Greek yogurt I've been giving along side for probiotics. We'll keep trucking along for now. Thanks for all the well wishes!

Our Silver Russian blue banded boy Boris is available for retirement. Boris turns 2 in late April, so he may not have much time left before he crosses the rainbow. Boris has fathered two litters and has been such a delight! He is a cage content guy and has a calm personality. Considering his age, we are happy to gift a pup to his retirement owner (if that is of interest when he passes). We retire our hams for free provided they go to great homes with excellent hamster husbandry. Please message me if you are interested in Boris!

Excuse the blurry shot of our two male holdbacks from Mary’s litter! One we are keeping indefinitely and the other is going on breeder contract. Why do we have so many cinnamon hold backs? It’s a long story- but ultimately we are trying to preserve our beginning cinnamon line after considerable loss. Some of you know we had a terrible virus pass through our Cinnamon/Russian Blue line. The virus is called Polyoma and it sadly causes cancer in young hamsters (under 6 months of age). It’s truly a nightmare and has caused much distress over the last year. This virus is endemic in Syrian hamsters across most of the world, and after generations of exposure they have natural immunity. Unfortunately we received Russian Blue Hamsters (a newer and rarer gene) that did not have generational immunity. These hamsters came from a respected and reputable breeder who had not experienced this problem as they were simply establishing this gene and had not outcrossed much. Thankfully, after retiring part of our new Russian Blue line, and working closely with our vet, we have seen some progress. Our current hamsters seem healthy and their offspring and grand offspring have remained healthy. We are still being cautious and will continue to work closely with our amazing veterinarian @seavsonline who has gone above and beyond to reach out to other veterinary experts and coordinated testing for us. It is not easy to ethically breed hamsters. We come across difficulties regularly. I wish I could tell you it’s all about cute baby hamsters- and I do love to share that aspect of our journey- it’s joyful. The good parts keep me going when things are tough. If it wasn’t for my amazingly supportive hamster breeder group, adopters, friends, and our lovely vet, I may have called it quits early this year. I’m so thankful for all of the support I’ve received and the encouragement to persevere. I am excited to continue our program into 2022!

My rabbit Dudley is feeling a bit neglected

12/23/2021

Bluebell has perked up a bit, but I’m still not sure if she is completely okay. Her back is slightly hunched, her fur a little less luxurious, and slightly looser stool. These are some of the small signs you have to look for with your rodent pets. She has been on antibiotics and anti inflammatory meds for about two days and I have a vet appointment lined up for next week, but I can bring her in sooner if necessary. For now I’m thankful to see a bit of improvement with the meds.

A little love from Peekaboo! A few updates- Bluebell is not feeling so great, I started her on antibiotics and will get her to the vet soon. Good vibes please. We have two litters in the nest that seem to be doing well and a few planned litters hopefully on the way. I will be slower to respond to emails and inquiries over the next 2 weeks, but hope to get up to normal speed after the holidays.

All of these shiny and bright rust based hamsters get their shiny fur from a single satin chocolate hammy we received from @hamsterzucht_angelichamsters , we named that girl Heidi, and we miss her dearly. I let go of satin for a bit but held onto it through a couple of crucial hamsters- Jackpot and October! (We also thankfully have a few satins on breeder contract). I’m hoping to bring better typed satin hammies to our adopters in 2022!
