“Ye are the light of the world…” Matthew 5:14–16
This verse speaks directly to our calling. Christ has not only saved us, He has sent us to shine.
The image behind these words is especially meaningful. The wooden lighthouse pictured here stands at one of Pacific Garden Mission’s entrances. It was carefully brought from our former location on State Street, a visible reminder of God’s faithfulness through the years. For generations, PGM has often been called “The Old Lighthouse,” a beacon of hope in the heart of Chicago.
Just as a lighthouse stands firm and casts light into the darkness, the Mission seeks to shine the truth of the Gospel into lives overwhelmed by hardship, addiction, and homelessness. The light we share is not our own. It is the light of Christ, lifted high so that men, women, and children may see His goodness and glorify our Father in heaven.
For nearly 150 years, that light has not gone out. Thank you for helping it continue to shine.

My daughter Cheyenne just spent the past two hours cleaning my office. She spent so much time taking care of everything because she felt so motivated and genuinely excited to go through and organize everything.

My office, mind you is also partially shared as the laundry room, which she also was washing her clothes during the time of her act of selflessness.

keep that knowledge there as I share the story.

I kept going in and checking in on her as she so felt accomplished organizing every paper, she even safely stacked my original manuscript for “Abyss” on the bottom shelf that sits next to my desk.

She took cleaning supplies out there and she began polishing the washer and drier to make it the immaculate white it once was.

She swept underneath my desk and cleaned up everything I had been ignoring.

She decided tonight would be the night to go in and be motivated to clean and renew a once “dirty” office (it was pretty cluttered) and spend time fixing it up.

And it was perfect,

I walked it off.

Mom walked it off.

It was perfect.

An hour later I began hearing sounds while sitting on the couch,

water?

I rushed into the office and it was completely flooded,

I mean, covering my feet flooded.

Somehow, a drier sheet had ended up in the drain, and water had flooded my entire office.

Man, how disappointing, scary even…that’s my workplace. I have cords that live in that office. This wasn’t just a normal leak, it literally was a flood.

I stopped the water by pulling the sheet out and panicked a bit to myself.

And then I paused.

I went to my daughter and told her what happened, and she calmly walked with me into the office. She saw how bad it was. But instead of freaking out, she offered solutions.

Sweep the water out. Lay down towels.

My boys came out as well and helped during the cleanup.

In the end, the cleaning of the office was completed with a cleansing of the floor and a lesson learned to myself so beautifully.

Jesus makes all things new.

He works in your life and cleans what you may not know needs cleaning.

The devil will try to attack during the cleansing process to destroy it, but even then,

Even then.

He will use that attack for His good.

My office floors are mopped ya’ll.

That’s how you uno reverse that spiritual warfare friends.

Christ is King! Today, tomorrow, and always.

My copy came! I always love ordering the first copy of my book.

The thief on the cross that rejected Jesus deserves a story, and now it’s told through my view and lens of study.

You imagine me loud.
You imagine me violent.
You imagine I come with teeth bared and shadows spilling across the floor.

How flattering.
How wrong.

I don’t need to storm the gates of Heaven.
I only need to sit beside you long enough for you to forget they exist.

My war isn’t waged with armies.
It’s waged with options.

I don’t tempt you with wickedness — that’s amateur work.
I tempt you with almost good,
with nearly right,
with close enough.

I don’t say, “Hate your brother.”
I say, “He should’ve known better.”
I don’t say, “Abandon God.”
I say, “He’s probably disappointed in you anyway.”
I don’t say, “Serve me.”
I say, “Serve yourself. You’ve earned it.”

You think I want worship.
I don’t.
Worship is noisy.
Worship is obvious.
Worship alerts Heaven.

No — I want something quieter.
I want your attention.
Your exhaustion.
Your numbness.

If I can keep you scrolling,
if I can keep you busy,
if I can keep you chasing the next small comfort,
I never have to drag you to Hell.

You’ll walk.

You’ll call it coping.
You’ll call it surviving.
You’ll call it “doing what I have to do.”

And I will nod, sympathetically.
I’m very good at sympathy.

You expect me to roar.
But I win by whispering.

I win by making you believe that the darkness you’re standing in
is just a different shade of normal.

I win when you stop noticing the distance between who you are
and who you were meant to be.

I don’t need to steal your soul.
I only need you to stop guarding it.

That’s the whole war.
Not fire.
Not fury.
Just… forgetting.

And I am very patient.

I see nothing inaccurate here.

Shachna's Eyes (Debauched, Depraved, Delivered Book 2) 04/02/2026

Often vilified and instantly written off in our minds, the thief on the cross who didn’t call out to Jesus for remembrance in the Kingdom disappears completely without a second thought. I think his story is something to ponder on. What happened? What was his reasoning? Was he close? I invite you to jump into my mind and experience my take on the unrepentant thief on the cross through “Shachna’s Eyes”,

available now.

Shachna's Eyes (Debauched, Depraved, Delivered Book 2) "Shachna's Eyes" tells the story of an unrepentant thief who was crucified alongside Jesus. In "Debauched, Depraved, Delivered: Part 2," a direct follow-up to "Dismas & The Tree," Shachna's perspective is fully explored as he navigates his final moments during one of the most pivotal events in hi...
