Sojourn Homestays
We provide the opportunity for international students to enjoy practicing English and learning about American culture in the context of welcoming homes.
Sojourn was founded by Jonathan Putnam and Bryan Fitz in January 2014 in Cleveland, Ohio. After getting to know a group of international students, we recognized that despite the best efforts of local universities, many international students find it difficult to form meaningful connections with the American public. Likewise, many Americans who desire to welcome and host foreign students are unsure
Students are currently seeking American host homes in the Lakewood, Cleveland Heights and University Heights areas. If you are interested in learning about another culture while renting out your spare guest room. Ideal homes are near public transportation (i.e. less than 40 minute ride from either CSU or CWRU).

Hosts needed: I have a number of students seeking to live with native English speakers on the east side of Cleveland i.e. Cleveland Heights, University Heights area while attending classes at ELS (English Language Services at Case Western). If you are interested or know of someone who is, please contact me. Homes must be on a bus line to campus and the fewer pets the better. Hosts receive $500/month to rent out a guest room and welcome students into their lives. It is much easier than it sounds and really a wonderful experience. Ok international friends in Cleveland, here's a question for you: what has been the best thing you've done here that you would recommend to new international students?

So grateful to gather with an amazing group of people (both native Clevelanders and international students and families seeking medical treatment) for a picnic in the park. Many thanks to Mosab Alheliani for helping put this together. Many international friends did an amazing job serving as translators making this a meaningful gathering for all. Many thanks to all who took a risk to cross-cultural lines and participate. One gentleman who came to C-town seeking medical treatment for his daughter said, "I've been waiting for a gathering like this for a very long time." That made the whole evening (including weathering the cold wind) worth it!

Hey Arabic speaking friends. I'm planning a cross-cultural picnic this weekend across from Reserve Square to extend hospitality to many of the international families here for medical treatment residing in Reserve and Statler Arms. There will be free food and a few brief cultural presentations. I'm in need of a few more people who are fluent in Arabic and English to serve as interpreters since many of the older internationals do not speak English. If you would enjoy serving in this way, I'd be very grateful! Just let me know. The gathering is at 4:30pm on Saturday, but I would need you there by 4:00pm. شكرا!
