Last week staff at our Middleburg Heights Branch had a blast attending the Middleburg Heights’ Summer in the City Parade.

Celebrate Juneteenth by attending one, two or all of these cool events at a branch.

Juneteenth AKA June 19 or Freedom Day honors those enslaved people in Galveston, Texas who received their freedom on June 19, 1865, two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

Since 2010, has collaborated with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank to distribute free food to those in need. Today, these services include weekly mobile food pantries, monthly Senior Boxes, Kids Cafe after-school meals and Summer Lunches, both for children of all ages, including kindergarteners through seniors in high school.

Upcoming mobile food pantries:

📍Garfield Heights Branch on June 23 and July 28.
📍Parma-Snow Branch on July 7.
📍Warrensville Heights Branch on July 16.

Kid Librarians at North Olmsted Library! North Olmsted brothers Barrett and Bryce recently participated in the Kid Librarian program at the North Olmsted Branch!

As part of the program, each created a display recommending some of their favorite books to other young readers. Barrett even wrote a review of one of his favorite books, Dog Man, while Bryce shared a fun fact he learned from a book: “Sharks don’t blink!”

The brothers also got a behind-the-scenes look at library operations by learning how to check in books and then checking out books for their dad. Thank you, Barrett and Bryce, for your enthusiasm and hard work. We loved having you as our June Kid Librarians!

Earlier today, Branch Services Supervisor Kate Merlene appeared on Ideastream Public Media's "The Sound of Ideas" where she discussed her favorite books of 2026 so far, how to keep kids engaged in reading over the summer, and how to cut back on screen time.
