with Richfield Fire Department, Summit County Ohio . I found this picture while digging through some old files, 3014 was a 1997 KME mid mount labeled as a ‘Tactical Rescue Pumper’. I believe this photo was taken at a life fire training where a farm house or outbuilding was burned down. These commercial cab engines sat 3 across and were a popular with several departments in the area near the end of the 90’s into the 2000’s. 3014 has since been retired and sold. Unknown if it lives on at another fire dept.

East side firefighters train on flashovers with Ohio Fire Academy - Back in March firefighters from University Heights FD, Beachwood FD, East Cleveland FD, South Euclid FD and Shaker Heights FD came together for flashover training with instructors from the Ohio Fire Academy. Each year instructors from the Ohio Fire Academy in Reynoldsberg travel the state with specialized semi trailers that allow them to simulate various live fire scenarios. The flashover training is always a hit allowing firefighters to experience flashover conditions in a controlled environment. Flashover is when all materials in a space are heated to the point the that everything in that space ignites simultaneously. In modern fires with the adoption of so many synthetic materials this happens very early. Temperatures in these spaces can easily reach over 1000 degrees in seconds. Training firefighters on identifying time lines, mechanics and warning signs, is essential to firefighter survival.
Thanks to University Heights Fire Department for the opportunity to come out and see this training first hand.
