New Comics On Tuesday Night! Episode #244! No new first appearances?! But DOOM is coming!

This morning we decided to rerack the back issue wall with some new stuff we’d been working on. In addition to what’s here we’ve also added two long boxes of Dark Horse Star Wars Comics, as well as three new long boxes of dollar stock, mostly X-Men. Throw in a couple new boxes of discount graphic novels and you’ve got plenty of reasons to come in before the real cold snap hits next week!

Thanks to everyone who came out to The Purge last night! We totally thought the weather was going to slow things down but it was our busiest Late Nite Comics ever traffic wise. We hope everyone there got some great deals and we thank you for helping us purge our inventory. Please note that in February Late Nite Comics will be on the fourth Thursday of the month, February 27th. This is because John Shearer, Ben and John Dudas will be in Los Angeles during the third week at the yearly ComicsPro meeting, discussing current issues in the industry and making new connections with publishers and distributors. Thanks again everyone! Excelsior!

Here’s a relevant classic. Ben with Steve Geppi, who we bumped into in Baltimore in 2022. I’ve had a handful of conversations with Steve over the years, all of them pleasant. He invited us out to the opening of his Pop Cultire Museum in 2006 and Carol and I went out. I’d often see him sitting by himself at parties he was sponsoring and I’d sit with him for awhile and talk. He was always super interested in hearing about Cleveland’s distribution scene in the early 90’s, as this was one of the last areas to hold out in his distribution take over. (Capital City Comics had a warehouse right in Middleburg Heights! It was a ten minute drive to pick up the weekly shipments, we saved a ton on shipping.) I got to have a drink with Steve last year and I told him I felt that no matter how things played out, shutting down distribution during the Pandemic was the right thing to do, and I respect him for doing that. Each state was operating under different rules and the playing field was so unlevel that something had to be done. Five years later that decision may have cost him everything, but I firmly believe it was a noble hill to die on in unprecedented times. So cheers Steve, I hope things reach a point where Diamond is self sustaining and functioning again, even if it’s to a much smaller degree.

So, Diamond has officially declared chapter 11 bankruptcy. From what we’ve seen of their performance over the last three months, this seems like it was inevitable. But fear not true believer! We’ve spent years trying to move as much business away from Diamond as possible. We already get Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, IDW and a slew of other indie publishers from different distributors. The other companies stuck at Diamond for the time being will eventually figure something out, and when they put their beacon up we’ll respond to it. We are committed to being a full service comic book shop, as always. This year we really leaned into the comic book side of the business, as opposed to trying to carry a bunch of comic adjacent merchandise, to great success. We are proud to be Cleveland’s comic book shop, and we’ll figure all this out so you don’t have to. (Just bear with us through any hiccups.) We also have developed some friendships with a few Diamond employees over the years, and our hearts go out to them and their families.

New Comics on Tuesday Night! Ultimate Wolverine slashes onto the screen! A throwaway ASM one-shot is actually SUPER good. Green Lantern gets a kickofff point! Episode #243.

Don’t forget this Thursday (January 16th) from 8pm to midnight is Late Nite Comics ‘The Purge!’ Fill a long box of dollar stock (defined as 300 comics) for only $75! Comics must be bought in increments of 300 to get that discount, otherwise books are $1 each. All back issues will be half off too! We should be able to have about 80 long boxes to dig through! The Purge!!!

New Comics On Tuesday Night! Episode #242! First new comics of the new year! A ton of new to get us started!

Late Nite Comics on January 16th will be our first ever dollar stock ‘Purge’. From 8pm to midnite you’ll be able to fill a long box of dollar stock (defined as 300 comics) for only $75 dollars. This is absolutely the only time we’ll be doing this in 2025, though it will likely become a January tradition. (Brand new dollar stock on the glass cases will be excluded, as it’s stuff we just put out.) We will try to get as many boxes out of the storage locker as possible, so you’ve got some deep diving to do. Books must be bought in increments of 300 to get the $75 value, otherwise comics are a dollar each. These are the rules of The Purge, and they are absolute. 🤡 🤡 🤡 Oh yeah, 50% off back issues as well, the only time that will happen in January.

A final thank you to all the artists that took the time to participate in the art show this year. Please know that we see and appreciate you. One of my favorite things is when we pull the winners at the party and the artist and the winner are there so they can meet each other. Well here’s the online version of that for our three big winners. Philip Cecil won Bob Peck’s Venom piece, Roger Mills won CHOD X-Men piece (by his own admission ‘I always put tickets in and never win anything.’) and Rain Moore won Bob Peck’s Batman piece, Rain also did a cover for the art show.
Amen…
