Pickens Street Cottages was recently featured by Columbia's WIS News 10, as the project officially celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. 📰

Developed by GBX Group in partnership with Rogers Lewis Group and Heartwood Homes, the project transformed the grounds behind Columbia’s historic W.B. Smith Whaley House into a collection of character-rich residences designed for both short- and long-term stays. The development reflects a commitment to preserving the architectural character of the neighborhood while introducing new housing opportunities in the city’s urban core.

The feature highlights how thoughtful planning, preservation-minded design, and strategic partnerships can help create vibrant places that honor local history while supporting continued community growth. The project was also recently recognized with Historic Columbia’s 2026 Preservation Award for Revitalization.

Celebrating a milestone on Pickens Street! ✂️🏡

Yesterday afternoon, the GBX team traveled down to Columbia for the ribbon-cutting and grand opening of Pickens Street Cottages. Located on the grounds of the historic W.B. Smith Whaley House, this project was recently awarded Historic Columbia's 2026 Preservation Award for Revitalization and showcases the impact of historic preservation, thoughtful design, and strong community partnerships.

We were especially honored to have Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann join us to present a proclamation commemorating the grand opening, recognizing Pickens Street Cottages' contribution to the continued revitalization of downtown Columbia.

A sincere thank you to Historic Columbia, the Columbia Chamber, Rogers Lewis Group, Heartwood Furnished Homes, Brennan Design Group, Saluda Architecture, and many more who helped bring these cottages to life.

A recent feature from NFocus Magazine highlights how art, history, and preservation come together inside Nashville's historic Castner-Knott building.

Local artists Jess Peoples and Sarah Clinton created a series of site-specific installations that celebrate Nashville's culture, architecture, and evolving skyline while honoring the building's 120-year history. Through thoughtfully designed murals and artistic details woven throughout the property, visitors are invited to discover both familiar landmarks and subtle references to the city's past.

These creative additions reflect a shared commitment to preserving historic places while creating engaging spaces that connect people to the stories that make them meaningful.

Built in 1906 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Castner-Knott building remains an important part of downtown Nashville's architectural legacy and ongoing revitalization.
